table! "Mm... Sawyer..."
Sawyer grinned and leaned in closer, kissing just below Kate's jaw line, knowing how much she loved it. They were just down the beach and around the corner, away from prying eyes, and Sawyer was taking full advantage of their privacy. She wrapped her arms around him as he kissed her neck, his hands running up and down her sides, gently massaging her breasts at points, firmly massaging her hips at others. Spurred by her occasional moans, Sawyer sank to the ground, pulling her down on top of him. She gave a tiny shriek, which made him laugh, and he tickled at her ribs, making her squirm and laugh, trying to bat him away. He grinned and flipped over, pinning her to the sand under him. She looked up at him, slightly breathless, her eyes twinkling. Sawyer leaned in, kissing her neck again, his hands wandering over her torso blindly, massaging her stomach and breasts alike. Both were so wrapped up in each other that they didn't hear anyone approach.
"Hey!"
They heard a man's voice shout and Sawyer stopped kissing her, looking over his shoulder as Kate looked up, both of them seeing Jack approaching, looking angry. Sawyer's customary smirk settled on his lips as the doctor came up to them, and the Southerner didn't even bother moving from his position laying on top of Kate.
"Hey doc, wanna join us?" he grinned up at the doctor, who scowled down at them. Sawyer was expecting the doctor to yell at him, and was surprised when Jack's angry gaze shifted to Kate.
"You were supposed to be at the hatch half an hour ago! Instead you're here, with this..." he paused, words failing him. "scoundrel. What's wrong with you, Kate?!" Jack snapped angrily, making Kate's face fall. Sawyer got off of her obligingly as she tried to sit up, looking ashamed and abashed. Kate scrambled to her feet, not meeting the eyes of either men.
"I... I'm sorry." Kate said quietly, her eyes averted from his.
"You should be." snapped Jack, glaring at her. Sawyer rose to his feet, frowning at Jack.
"Back off, doc." he said warningly, catching Kate's sad, defeated expression. Jack glared at him.
"No, Sawyer. She has a responsibility that she neglected and she can't just get away with it." Jack was too angry for this situation alone, Sawyer knew something else must be wrong, but that was no excuse to treat Kate like that.
"I'm sorry, Jack... I'm going." Kate mumbled, a definite tremble to her voice. She shot Sawyer an apologetic look and hurried away into the jungle, disappearing amongst the trees. Sawyer turned back to Jack with a furious look on his face.
"What the hell was that?!" Sawyer demanded, glaring at the doctor. Jack rolled his eyes.
"Someone has to keep an eye on her." he said stonily and moved to follow her. Sawyer reached out a hand to block him, shoving him back.
"Piss off, Jacko." Sawyer told him darkly. The doctor raised an eyebrow at him. "Leave her alone or you'll regret it." Jack regarded him coldly for a moment.
"That a threat?" he finally asked, disgust and disbelief lacing his tone. Sawyer's eyes glinted malevolently.
"It's a promise." He shoved Jack again, making the doctor stumble slightly. Jack's face became angrier, and Sawyer was glad to see the fight sparking in Jack's eyes.
"What are you, her protector?!" Jack spat at him, regaining his footing. Sawyer didn't say anything, his fists clenching. "Suppose it would fit... the two of you, both convicts, both probably murderers... go and have your little convict children but do it on your own time!" Jack snarled at him. That was the last straw. Sawyer shoved him again, and this time as Jack recovered, Sawyer swung hard, punching the doctor solidly in the lower jaw. The impact sent him flying to the sand with a grunt of pain. Triumphant, Sawyer massaged his knuckles as he waited for the doctor to rise.
Jack rose slowly, a hand over the area that Sawyer had punched, looking pained. And pained he should be; Sawyer had made sure to punch him good and hard. Jack charged forward, aiming for Sawyer's face, but at the last second switched, pelting the man hard in the gut. Sawyer doubled over, gasping for breath as the pain exploded through his abdomen. He wondered where the doctor had learned to fake like that, but had little time to dwell on it before Jack had tackled him, knocking him on his back in the sand. Before he could move the doctor had straddled him and taken a swing at his face, which made contact with his lower cheek, splitting his lip and cutting the inside of his cheek on his teeth. Furious, Sawyer shoved the doctor off and flipped over onto him, pummeling him in the face several times before the man could even move. Blood dripping down his chin, Sawyer threw another punch and heard a loud snap, followed by a scream of pain from Jack; he'd broken the doctor's nose.
Expecting the doctor to stop struggling now that he was in agony, Sawyer was unpleasantly surprised when a handful of sand launched itself into his face, getting into his eyes and clogging his nose and mouth. Yelling in pain as the granules stuck to his eyeballs, he rolled off of Jack, frantically swiping at his eyes, trying to rid them of the sand. The doctor suddenly pounced on him again, knocking him down, flailing his arms furiously at Sawyer. Jack's fists caught Sawyer in the face several times before he managed to get away and scramble to his feet, unable to see because of the sand, tears streaming down his cheeks as his eyes fought to rid him of the grit. He swung his leg wildly and connected with Jack's stomach, hearing the man grunt loudly in pain. He swung again, kicking him in the side of the head this time, accidentally, as Sawyer had been aiming for the chest. Jack suddenly lay still, knocked out by the kick. Groaning, Sawyer walked away, leaving Jack bleeding in the sand and ran for the waterfall, not even pausing to strip, just diving straight in and opening his eyes under water, getting the sand out.
Finally it was gone and Sawyer heaved himself out of the water, dripping wet and bleeding from his lip and a cut above his eyebrow, panting. The southern man pushed his hair out of his eyes as he glared at nothing, remembering Jack's angry, uncalled for comments. Sawyer knew he'd take on Jack again in a second. He'd take on anyone to protect Kate. Anyone.
