My name is Padma.
"I never cried for my sister," she admits over the rush of water; the river. They say this place is sacred, and there is a kind of madness in the heat.
"So?"
She kisses me, and now there is madness, and the air is heavy.
She gave herself away like a china doll.
"Is this your penance?"
The stone skips twice; sinks. "Maybe."
"Then what am I?"
She does not answer, and I am dizzy from the heat.
Left to nothing, adrift on the water.
I can smell the lotus blossoms in her hair, heady, and I reel from sensation. She has such clever hands, and all I can see is the glare of the sun, whiter than white and too much, too much, am I dreaming?
"Padma..."
"Shhh."
Wash me clean.
Even the water scorches me; I cannot think I cannot think I am losing my mind. All those years no but now I am crazy and I cannot... I cannot...
"Padma..."
"You get used to it."
A cry.
"It's just water."
"I can't... I'm not..."
"Relax."
You were supposed to be the rock in the water.
"This place is too much for me." Winterpale, not dark like you.
"It's okay. Come here."
Curling in on myself; her arms are around me still heated and heavy; I smell cinnamon.
"Cinnamon..."
"From the sweets."
"Can we..."
"I don't know."
I don't understand.

"I'll show you." Brown hands skim white, and the silk is so beautiful, yellow like sun would be if it were tame. Folding, folding, folding, a cocoon; does she feel safe, here?
