Hermione stared at the device in her hand, her face reflecting the pure terror she felt inside. Her mind replaying the message she had just received.
"What the hell was I thinking allowing her to get me this so we could keep in touch? At least with an Owl I can pretend I didn’t have time to write back, and mum and dad don’t have a Floo connection."
She was pacing the length of the room in her agitation, much to the amusement of her lovers, who were sitting on the couch. Sirius chuckled and she rounded on him. "What? Do you find this amusing Puppy?" She spat at him shaking the phone in his face.
"Well…" He temporized, realizing at once that he was treading on thin ice. "In a way, I suppose, it is." Her glare stopped his words quickly enough, and he was glad only he caught the rolling of Remus’s eyes as He took up where Sirius failed to finish.
"Darling, it’s just your mother. I know it’s going to be a difficult thing to tell her but if you just relax and tell her what is in your heart, I’m sure it will go over all right. So it has come out a little sooner than you expected. We should have known Molly would keep in touch with your mum. But, it’s all water under the bridge now." Remus always seemed to be the voice of reason around the house at times like these, which normally soothed her and made her feel safe. Right now, however, it right pissed her off. Remus watched her jaw tighten, and her chin rise in defiance. Before she could begin another tirade this one directed at him, he jumped up and put his arms around her. "Mione, we love you, we are not going to let you go through this alone. We will be standing right there beside you, never doubt that."
She sighed her whole body relaxing into his arms, her face trying to burrow into his chest. "I don’t doubt that you love me, or that you will be there for me, I just wish I could have had more time to prepare my mother for the whole idea of the men in my life. Damn Molly anyway… why can’t the old biddy have kept her mouth shut?"
Sirius rose from his place on the couch and joined the two in the embrace. His arms wrapped around Hermione to rest on Remus’s waist. He whispered in her ear as she turned her face towards theirs. "You don’t mean that love."
"I know I don’t," she replied kissing them softly first one then the other before pulling away from them. "Well here goes everything I guess." She flipped open the cellular telephone and dialed her mothers number.
"Hi mum, I’m just returning your call… um yeah, we would love to join you for dinner tomorrow at 4 pm. I’ll see you then. I love you …dad too. Call me if you need to reschedule. I’ll talk to you later. Bye." She shut off the phone and looked over at the two smiling fools in front of her.
"See, a simple short message and it’s all over," Remus said with a smile. "And very eloquent as well."
Sirius snorted, as Hermione leaned over to swat Remus on the bum. "Brats, both of you." She said adding a swat for Sirius as well. They grinned back at her like two teenagers. She watched a wicked light touch their eyes, and the silent communication they seemed to have with each other sparked just before Sirius grabbed her hand started walking toward the bedroom. When he picked her up and flung her onto the bed; Hermione gasped, and decided that more worrying could certainly wait until tomorrow, right now she had much more important things to focus on.
