percy30 Percy stared at the list of summer interns within the Department of International Wizarding Confederation. One name mocked him above all others and he blinked, hoping his mind had somehow placed it there as a feeble joke. Millicent Bullstrode’s name unfortunately didn’t disappear, the elegant ink scrawl stubbornly remained.
She was one of the better candidates and he couldn't refuse her name without a very good excuse. An excuse that he didn't have, beyond she got under his skin and irritated him. With his luck, his superior would think that only added to her appeal. He could only hope to Merlin that Millicent was assigned to another employee.
His gaze skimmed down the rest of the parchment and quickly noticed that she was the only Knight of Walpurgis. Were the Elders testing him or was Millicent genuinely interested in the internship?
A sharp knock followed by the office door opening, brought Percy's head up with a scowl. "Undersecretary." He quickly stood to greet his supervisor, but paused as he saw Millicent smirking over his shoulder. Buggering hell
"Percy, this is Millicent Bullstrode your new summer intern. Millicent, this is Percy Weasley, your mentor for the summer." Allen Leydon watched his young protege politely greet Millicent and knew he'd placed the right candidate with Percy. He was a conscientious employee, but tended to be a work-a-holic. The Undersecretary hoped this assignment would loosen him up a bit, and take him out of his comfort zone. The scowl brewing between his eyes but quickly hidden was a good sign. "Well, I'll leave you two to get settled. If you have any questions, I'm sure Percy can answer them for you."
Percy waited until the Undersecretary left before shutting the door and turning to Millicent with a scowl. "Bullstrode."
Laughter at the situation danced in Millicent’s eyes, "Weasley." She had known this would be a possibility when she applied for the summer internship, but that hadn't stopped her. Fate was mocking her, and all that she could do was place her mask on and hope she didn't hex him before the summer was over.
"Is this a test or do you actually want to work for the Ministry? I'm merely asking so I know how much work you plan to actually do." Percy raised a reddish eyebrow, knowing which buttons to push for the young Knight. He'd seen her potential and an appetite to rise among the ranks that had matched his own, but he would not have his position within the Ministry compromised for a bint that was playing.
She narrowed her eyes in anger and knew this was going to be a very long summer. "Believe it or not, but my desire to work with the International Confederation has nothing to do with you. If I had a say, I certainly wouldn't have been assigned to an uptight wizard with a broom up his arse."
Percy leaned forward and softly whispered in her ear, "Good, then consider this a mission where my orders are law." He straightened up with a smirk, his voice returning to normal. "Now that we understand each other, you can work through that pile of parchments on your desk." He'd known it had been a mistake the moment that he had leaned in to whisper in her ear. Millicent's perfume was now wrapped in his senses and the summer stretched excruciatingly long before him.
Millicent resisted the temptation to snap to attention and give him a mock salute before going to the smaller desk. Her nerve endings were jumbled and she still felt his warm breath on her ear. It would be a trial in more ways than one, working with the uptight git in close corners. She wanted this job and nothing was going to stand in her way, especially not her unfortunate attraction to her mentor.
