TITLE: It begins where it ends ... in nothingness
FANDOM: The X-Files
AUTHOR: nicis_anatomy

CHARACTER: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully
GENRE: gen, angst, episode tag for 5.07 "Emily"
RATING:
G
WORD COUNT: 100

SUMMARY: My take on the opening scene of "Emily". Written for prompt "Slipping Away" for 100wordstories and prompt #64 "Hopeless" for 100_tales.

WARNING: English still isn't my native language (although I wish) and the story is not beta'd. Spoiler for 5.07 "Emily"
DISCLAIMER: I don't own these characters. I just borrow them from time to time to have some fun with them.

~*~*~*~*

As Mulder sees Scully and that little girl on the floor, he feels like he's been hit by a bus.
For a second, it feels like he can't breathe, and the world (his world) feels empty, hopeless.
It's not that he doesn't want her to be happy (he wishes her nothing more than that), but seeing her and Emily frightens him. He doesn't want to lose her, as a partner, a friend (his friend).
He knows he will (one day), and when Scully looks up at him, smiling, all he can do is faking a smile (but inside ... he's dying).
