Blair woke to darkness surrounding him. He tried moving around, but he ached all over. He tried to remember what happened, but he couldn't. There was just a vague thought in the back of his mind. It wasn't even clear.
He closed his eyes again and felt the chill run through him. One thing Blair did know was that he didn't like being cold. As he tried to remember more of what happened, he thought about Jim.
Just where was his ever-present partner? The one who always showed up in the nick of time for a rescue. Blair's memories of that were also fuzzy at the moment. Despite wanting to get out of his current situation, Blair fell asleep.

Jim stood in the middle of nowhere, extending out his senses, looking, searching for his guide. There was no warning, no pretense that anything was going to go wrong. They had become complacent, thinking no one would come after them.
Jim knew wherever Blair was it wasn't a good place. All he wanted to do was find Blair, make sure he was okay and find a way to keep him safe in the future.
Jim checked known criminals, associates of criminals, every government agency he could get hold of, and every other tangible lead he could think of to check. The abduction took place three blocks from the police station. That fact wasn't known until two days later when Blair's glasses showed up behind the deli Blair frequented often. There were a few drops of blood found near the glasses. Jim almost zoned on the area, trying to find more clues, but there weren't any.
Now, it had been six days with no word whatsoever. No body, no ransom demand, no exchange demanded. Jim knew it was a distinct possibility that he'd never see Blair again, although his heart didn't want to believe that.

Blair woke again, in the same predicament as previously. If possible, he was colder than earlier. His mind though, was a little clearer.
He'd been in the deli when three men walked in, grabbing him and taking him out the back door. Blair didn't recognize any of them. Blair fought their hold on him and that earned him a whack on the side of his head, dazing him. Then, there had been the needle prick in his arm and his consciousness waned. Things after that were still fuzzy. Including how long he had been missing.
He was grateful he was still alive, even if he didn't understand why. Maybe the ones who grabbed him wanted him to suffer a slow, agonizing, painful death.
"I don't want to die!" exclaimed Blair to the darkness surrounding him.

Jim halted in mid-stride. "Blair." He whispered the name sure he heard the voice of his guide. He concentrated his hearing, trying to pinpoint where the voice came from. But there were no more words forthcoming.
"C'mon, Chief! You need to work with me here."
There was silence for the next few heartbeats, then… "Jim? I'm sorry. I thought you would find me by now." Jim automatically followed the voice. "I tried to hold on, but I'm so cold, practically numb."
Jim found the cave and started removing the rocks covering the opening. This close, he picked up Blair's heartbeat. "Hold on, Chief. I'm almost there."
As soon as Jim removed the last obstacle in front of the cave, he got on his cell phone, calling for backup and an ambulance. He went inside and the sight that greeted him stopped his forward motion. Blair was in a huddle on the ground.
"Blair!" Jim moved quickly to Blair's side, kneeling down and removing the bindings on his arms and legs. Jim instinctively checked for a pulse, not relying on his hearing. Jim discovered that Blair was very cold. He opened the duffle bag he had with him, pulling out one of Blair's heavy sweaters, a pair of wool socks and an extra coat. He quickly got the items on Blair, hoping to provide him with a small measure of warmth until rescue came.
Jim gathered Blair close to him, putting the stocking cap on Blair's head and the gloves on his hands. "Hold on, Chief. I've found you, so now you can hold on."
Blair stirred slightly in Jim's arms. "I didn't th-think you'd come." Blair said it softly and Jim knew he wasn't fully awake.
"I'll always come, Chief. You should know that by now."
