Nothing to Worry About

“Booth can I talk to you for a minute?” asked Angela, catching him just before he entered Brennan’s office.

“Sure, Angela. What’s up?” He walked to meet her in the doorway off her office.

“Come inside.” She motioned him in with her hand. “I want to talk to you about something.”

“Okay, sure.” He said, furrowing his brow. Angela wanted to talk to him? What had he done wrong? Uh-oh.

“Sit.” She said, pointing to a chair opposite her desk. He did so silently, still confused. Once she settles herself behind her desk, she spoke. “Booth, I really don’t think you’re gonna be someone I’m gonna have to worry about, but it’s procedure. It’s more important than ever now after everything she’s been through.”

“Okay…” Booth said slowly “What’s this about? Is it about me and Bones?”

Angela nodded. “As her best friend I feel it my duty to know that she’s safe. I need to look out for her because sometimes she doesn’t do it for herself. You know that.” She sighed. “You two are dating now, and that means that she’ll open herself to you even more.”

“Yeah. Usually that’s what couples do, you know? Tell each other things.”

Angela gave him a look. She was clearly not amused. Booth sighed, slightly annoyed. “Look, Angela, are you trying to get at something here? What’s your point?”

Angela leaned foreword in her chair so that she was leaning over her desk. Booth leaned in closer as well. Angela’s features were set, and Booth wasn’t sure he had ever seen her look this serious besides when she was upset. This was a look not to be messed with. “Brennan really cares about you.” She said in a low voice. “You have to be careful with her because weather she’ll admit it or not, she is very fragile underneath that tough façade of hers. If she ever calls me-and believe me, she will call me, it’s what she does-upset because of you? You’ll have me to answer to, ‘kay?”

Booth let out a low whistle. “Sure, Angela. No problem. But, uh, like you said, I don’t think you’ll have any major problems. I plan on making this work.”

She smiled. “Good to hear you so confident about that. Glad we could come to an understanding.”

“What understanding?” asked Hodgins, poking his head in the room.

“The understanding that now that Booth and Brennan are dating, if he hurts her he’ll have me to deal with.”

“Oh yeah, man. You hurt Brennan and Angela finds out? Hide, and hide well.”

“Okay! Point taken.” He held his hands up in a defensive gesture. “Can I go now?”

Angela smirked and nodded. Booth was up and out of the room quickly.

“Are you like this with all of her boyfriends?” asked Hodgins.

Angela shrugged. “Yeah. Just like to know she’s with someone who deserves her. She doesn’t have anyone else to make sure of that.”

“Does Booth deserve her?”

“Yeah…more than anyone.”
