Silent Apology
It had been a long day. The case they were working on was complicated and it had taken its toll on both of them. They had spent the day at the crime scene, a field in the middle of nowhere, and it had been cold. Then because Murphy had decided to unleash his wrath on both of them, the skies opened up and they both got caught in the torrential downpour. Soaked to the core, tired and cranky, all Booth and Brennan wanted to do was go home to a nice warm bed and fall asleep.
They climbed into the SUV and began the drive back to DC. Because of his cranky mood, Booth had snapped at Brennan a few times which only resulted in making her crankier and him receiveing her ‘silent treatment’. She clearly was not very happy with him right now.
But now that things were calmer, he felt bad for being short with her. He was sure he would be forgiven in the morning, it was a childish grudge to hold and he was sure that Brennan’s terrible mood was contributing. But he still felt that he needed to break the thick silence that had settled between them. He found the perfect way to do so when he saw her shiver out of the corner of his eye.
“You cold?” he asked gently. Brennan just shrugged her shoulders.
He sighed and let the silence settle once more. A few minutes later she shivered again. Booth reached over and turned on the heat. The car warmed up considerably. This was his silent apology. And when she thanked him, he knew he had been forgiven.
