The coming of trouble.

Oct 08, 2007 01:31

((Continued from Here.))All is quiet aboard the Decepticon undersea base known as Terradessa-1. Not an awful lot tended to happen here very often, so this is a pretty normal situation. Empty corridors and silent rooms stretch out as far as the optic can see in all directions ( Read more... )

Not being constrained to having to travel through the Nexus - quick as it may be - Blackstar beats the new arrivals back to Terradessa-1. He flickers into transparent sight floating along behind Shifter as the Eurofighter goes off to secure what needs securing.

"Sticking around for the fun?" he asks with a purely Decepticon grin.

Echoshift glances over to him whilst continuing to make preparations, thinking that Blackstar is making a reference the fact that he seems to be packing up and high-tailing it outta Dodge before the Stunticons get here.

"Yeah, sure I am," he answers, tone mildly sarcastic. "That's why I'm stowing all my stuff away and then leaving." He hefts another crate into a storage compartment before pausing and turning to face Blackstar again, looking curious. "Why? You planning on staying to spy on them or something when they get here?"

"Spy," Blackstar replies with a grin. "Sure. Spying."

He vanishes, a low chuckle like cyanide velvet filling to compartment, and Shifter should just barely feel something like fingers sliding along one wingtip for an instant, just an instant. A vague shadow flickers just at the corner of his optics - on the opposite side from that phantom carress - for another bare fraction of an instant, and still that chuckle.

// I'm reaaaaal good at spying, after all... //

Echoshift attempts to pin that chuckle to a source and instinctively turns to try and relocate Blackstar as the other Seeker disappears. Needless to say, he's not very successful.

A momentary brush of air against a wingtip and he tenses. Keeping track of a ghost is like trying to keep track of the wind; they're not where you're looking and yet everywhere at once.

//I'm sure you are,// he replies, tone dry, using that same strange not-quite-a-comlink frequency Blackstar is broadcasting through and trying to look unphased. //Joking around aside, what are you planning on doing when they get here? 'Cause the rest of us are gonna have left by then.// Well, that was the plan anyway. Whether the Stunticons ended up arriving before everyone had been able to get out was completely up in the air.

It was enough work manhandling Motormaster that none of the Stunticons except Drag Strip paid attention to where Starscream led them. Drag Strip's gaze roved from side to side with an occasional glance back; he was going to remember enough to backtrack this route, damn it!

Finally, Starscream came to what looked like the end of a blind alley in a wall of ancient, soot-stained, crumbling brick.

"I know it doesn't look like much, but this the way back to Terradessa-1. Pay attention, Drag Strip, and follow, because I'm not coming back for you if you dawdle and miss the portal," the Air Commander said in that harsh voice of his.

Drag Strip scowled; he did not need Screamer's condescension on top of everything else. What was he, a complete newb to get lost in a one-way alley?

"Yeah, so where's this port--"

Starscream stepped through the wall and vanished. Drag Strip distinctly saw one wing projecting out of the wall for a split-second, and then it was gone, too ( ... )

On the other side, Starscream waited for the Stunticons in the middle of an unremarkable corridor in the Undersea Base.

"Took you long enough, Drag Strip. You're on H-deck." A quick gesture, pointing to the right. "The repair bay is that way, in case you've forgotten. Take Motormaster and see to repairs. I have to report this mess."

Starscream turned gracefully on one boot-thruster and strode off in the opposite direction, toward the elevator to the Command Center.

"Right. Okay, you heard him, let's get Moto stowed away and see if the 'Structies are ready for us," Drag Strip snapped at the other three.

After finally lugging Motormaster to the Constructicon's repair bay, the first thing that struck Drag Strip when he opened the door was the notable lack of Constructicons. After Wildrider, Breakdown and Dead End wrestled their much larger brother onto a repair table, they, too looked around.

The second thing that Drag Strip noticed was that it was much too neat. Oh, sure, Hook's area always looked like that, but since when was Scavenger's cubby so tidy and empty? And it was quiet. Even when the 'Structies were out on business, it was never this quiet. At the very least, one of Mixmaster's stills should be perking away...

It was like the base was deserted. "Guys, did you notice anyone on our way down here?"

"No..." said Breakdown as he started looking at Motormaster's damage. "I didn't even hear the cameras whirring. The cameras that always watch me..."

Starscream actually did report to the Command Center like he told Drag Strip he was. He didn't actually report to anyone, of course. The Air Commander of the Dead did not report to anyone mortal, and the former Air Commander of the Decepticons no longer lived to report to anyone.

Starscream's fingers tapped lightly on the main computer console, bringing up certain files, leaving a selected log entry on the screen for whoever might come in and look.

With a smirk and a twist of a knob, he put the rest of the base on 'stand-by' mode, dimming the lights and cutting environmental to minimal levels--except for the empty repair bay. That, he left fully lighted, the better to appreciate its yawning emptiness.

Echoshift's attention is momentarily drawn away from the others. He looks up as the lights dim and the low whirr and hum of non-essential systems powering down murmurs through the room.

"There's our cue. The Stunticons are here."

Blackstar was still nursing a bit of a grudge against a couple of those Stunticons, so Duskwing's comment about Motormaster's brand of stress relief didn't garner much more than a nod of acknowlegement. As the lights dim, however, he smirks again, and, with a dark chuckle, vanishes from Shifter's sight.

"Sticking around to keep 'em company, Commander?" Blackstar asks as he pops up in the Command Center with Starscream. "Or you have bigger fish to fry?"

Starscream simply smirked and pointed at the log entries he'd left on the console.

Auto-log 2005-NNNN-MMMM-304: Notification: Megatron lost. Starscream new Emperor of Decepticons.
Auto-log 2005-NNNN-MMMM-305: Notification: Starscream destroyed. Galvatron new Emperor of the Decepticons. (ref: attached video)

"I'm playing it by ear. Try not to let them get up here until late in the game, but I do want them to find this... eventually."
