ARTHUR! OHMYGOD! Okay, so, in answer to your note, no, I don't think you've gone ooc with him here. I think he's been under a lot of stress, has had a lot of earth shattering shocks in a very short span of time, and it's kind of understandable that he'd snap. But, GOD, what a way to do it! O_O

I'm so glad! I was just worried because I hadn't planned for it to go like this, it just happened while I was writing. That kind of thing is always very cool as a writer, but it also leaves me with a certain sense of insecurity because it sometimes doesn't fit in with what you've planned in terms of character development, build-up of suspension etc.

No, I think Arthur's still IC here. I mean, he's headstrong and has always put his life at risk so this comes as no real surprise :P

I loved the idea of Merlin as the land. That the legend could be so connected with the landscape. It certainly gives weight to the idea of Merlin being able to protect Camelot from such dark magic. And it makes so sad! Will Merlin make it through? Will Arthur? Ooh, can't wait for the next chapter! :D

Wohooo, I'm so happy you think that! :) I hadn't planned it like that -- originally, I'd had the idea that Arthur was actually going to attempt an attack on either Merlin or Gaius, but when I actually wrote the chapter it just came to me like this.

I adore the idea as well. I believe I once read it in someone else's fic, but I cannot for the life of me remember which one it was, and the idea stuck with me. a) I like Merlin being all powerful and BAMF! ;P b) he (not BBC Merlin but Merlin in general) is such an integral part of European culture that I just thought: "Hey, if you're going to go over the top with this, better do it right!" :D

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!! To be honest, when I planned this fic I'd planned for Arthur to actually attempt an attack on someone else (either Gaius or Merlin) ... but while I was writing it, it just happened this way.
