[For Garak - NDPD]

There has been a rash of gift-giving around the island of late, if memory serves me correctly this happened in the month directly after “winter” last year, as well. What’s a little strange about this time around is not only the fact that one of the gifts was a Cardassian riding hound - although that is remarkable in and of itself. The strange ( Read more... )

Garak had received a gift of fabric a few days earlier and had spent quite some time trying to determine who it was from, and more importantly how they'd gotten into his chambers. He didn't like surprises, especially not ones that indicated his security was lax. Perhaps he would move? It might be safest, after all, and there were several other chambers in the caves that would suit his needs.

It was while he was pondering these things that he happened to glance up and see, sitting on his fabric stores, Dr. Bashir's ridiculous bear. No one had entered or left his chambers. He certainly would have noticed that, since he was right there. His gaze sharpened to the point that the bear should have started exuding stuffing and then he decided the island must be playing tricks again. It was worse than the Q at times.

He sighed and picked the bear up before leaving the chamber and going to the compound. He entered the lab with the bear under his arm and cleared his throat.

The sight of Garak walking into the lab was a surprise, had I been too engaged in my work to notice the passing time again? No, it couldn't be, all I was doing was some rather routine ground work for Abby - Garak was here for some other reason.

"Garak! What can I do for you?"

Of course Dr. Bashir was engrossed in something so fully that he wasn't sure what day it was (Saturday) and thought it might be Tuesday. Why was he not surprised?

He held the bear up and raised an eyeridge.

"I believe this is yours, doctor?"

"Is that...?" My eyes widened in disbelief. "Garak how...?"

"Kukalaka!" There was obvious delight in my voice, and I suspect that everyone in the compound had heard me. It was all I could do to not vault the table and fly at the bear like the child I had been when he became my first patient.
