Mello compels you to do both these memes

I've started reading the original Sailor Moon, because... well, because it's a classic, I guess? I have very fond memories of watching the fail dub when I was eleven or so. But the story-telling style in the original is so weird! It's tripping me out, seriously. And I got my sweet little grandma to read Death Note. This is awesome, y/n ( Read more... )

Your little rant on Bleach effectively sums up why I'm finding it difficult to get back into that series at all. The original characterizations for everyone sort of disappear later on in the series and we're all left with these cardboard done-before-been-there-and-back characters. Sweet jesus I love me some Rukia. But I'm tired of the stupidly typical Shonen Jump instant powerups that come at such convenient times. It's either that or "Look someone just saved my ass when I was seriously about to die". GAH!

Eugh. Yeah. I get to the point where I feel like Soul Society doesn't deserve to survive if all it's going to do is sit and hope for random power-ups. I wish that there was some sense to the fight scenes instead of just 'Lol! My sword pwns your sword!' I wish that people used strategy. And Soul Society is obviously seriously complacent and doesn't seem to realize what a problem that is. Aizen's scheme should never have worked in a well-run system.

I've never read anything by Grisham, so I can't really comment on that.

Death Note is just... Misa is such a horrible mishmash of every single insult that could be thrown at a woman, and then when I ignore her, I realize that most of the other female characters aren't really any better, even if they're more subtle. And I finished the series really, really wishing that we'd find out that Sayu's not being like her brother is a good thing, or that it makes her a more strong or moral person... but nope. If I remember correctly, even her own family members insult her intelligence.

I'd say that it's a common thing for many seinen/shounen series to show how much women need to be rescued. Damsels in distress indeed :/

Take Sakura from Naruto for example - she'll crush every enemy with her strength, but she'll cry like a little girl and break down after hearing that Sasuke joined Akatsuki _^_ Kishi indeed "knows" how female mind works >.>;

It's weird, although I guess I can sort of understand it. But you'd think that since every single series ever seems to have that trope that people would get tired of it eventually. I mean, seriously. And for fighting-based series, it's never made any sense to me. I mean, if you were this awesome fighter guy with a lot of enemies, would you really want to get together with this girl that needs to be rescued all the time? Even if she was really hot? I would think that she would be an unbearable liability, realistically speaking.

hahaha... seems that they never will -.-; I don't really get it, too... but it might be that every guy wants to be that knight in a shining armour ^^; Who cares that he has to be that knight all the time? ^^; Besides, love is blind and so on :P But in fact it really makes no sense to me *shakes her head*
