So apparently some General dude said that he thought that homosexuality was wrong and that he was against people being openly gay in the military. So now a bunch of democrats and pro-gay groups are in an uproar demanding that he apologize for his statements, but he is not doing so as of yet ( Read more... )

I understand that and I do agree that he should not need to appologize for choosing the status quo as a political platform- people on both sides have been overreacting some and that's not good.

I'm just saying that few unit commanders actually believe that homosexuality effects a unit's fighting moral significantly-- just the same that few believe that blacks effect it, and I don't mean to overuse an example but the common theory back then was that blacks were stupid, base, inferior and treacherous and should not be allowed to fight alongside whites. The politicians are the only ones saying that being openly gay is screwing up the military.

The problem child that I'm complaining about is it allows homophobia to be welded as a training tool by the military, which might get someone to do what you want but not willingly. The end result is people I've known less than two years ago have been lynched by fellow troops on suspicion of being gay in infantry units (where homophobia is most rampant), and in admin units good marines have been kicked out against the will of both their unit and their command because they were caught with a "boyfriend".

There's a difference between being a pansy faggot in rainblo colors telling everybody you're queer and being a hardworking individual who cannot marry and cannot have a family because he would be associated with that pansy faggot. My omly point is that the government has a responsibility to protect their rights and it is counterproductive for them to impliment this policy.

but he still has every right to support it without being harassed.
