It's almost that time of year, folks. And by that, I mean time to swim in Lake Michigan. A week and a half to go until this year's fiasco. My biggest complaint is that it's just not cold enough. Today it's going to be in the mid 40s. Looking ahead, we can expect some snow and tapering temperatures after the 26th, but I'd like an actual COLD ( Read more... )

I was just thinking about this the other day. I was reading about the polar bear swim in my old hometown. Of course there, they have to break up the ice so that the swimmers can access the water. :)

It's happened here before. Unfortunately, the last time they did that was the one year I was out of town for New Years. Dag nabbit!

You should head back home and do the dive this year. I'd be so impressed ;)

No thanks. It's a 1000 mile journey. Seriously. I might have tried it when we lived on the west coast--at least they got to jump in the Pacific. :)

I forgot... there's a fundraiser dive that our local Polar Bear club does each year. You collect pledges, and they cut up the ice on the Fox River in Green Bay for a plunge. River dives are supposed to be colder than the lake plunge I do each year. I've just never been able to find anyone willing to do the river dive with me.

Hmmmmm..... maybe this year....

Mind?

What mind?

Your interest almost makes me think I've won over yet another Polar Bear to the cause. There MUST be someplace that a swim takes place somewhere near you. Find it! Go for it! DO IT!
