more blathering about jobs

I've been working at Tara Jewelry every day since last Friday, when I started, and it looks like I'll be there after dorm-cleaning every weekday this week (3:30-6 pm). Doing dorm-cleaning and the store is working out so far, since I have enough of a window between them to shower, dress, and get there. Plus the store is basically just sitting and talking to people, compared to the running up and down stairs, toting bags, and standing involved in dorm-cleaning. And business was slow today (2 sales in 2 hours, and the shop was deserted most of the time) so Maureen said I could close up half an hour early.

I'm getting the hang of the cash register. Maureen pointed out the buttons and the order I press them in for various situations, but she basically left me on my own for doing any actual sales (although I'm always encouraged to call her if I get stuck.) I'd been having mishaps with discounted items, but I figured out yesterday that the golden rule (at least with this cash register) is to always punch in numbers before hitting any other button. If I remember that, discounts don't frazzle me. So after four days and approx. twelve sales, I think I've mostly gotten it down. Now I just have to work on speed. Memorizing the labels on the department keys will help.

This is the first time for a week I've had nothing to do. I can't move in to the apartment on Prince George St. until Wednesday after 6, and the meeting with the people we're subletting from is tomorrow evening, and I don't really have any groceries to buy (we scored SO MUCH FOOD dorm-cleaning) so... yeah. I guess I should make dinner. No one but me is at 7 College Ave (where I'm crashing until Wednesday) at the moment, so I must assume that dinner is catch as catch can, and there's nothing communal planned for tonight.

...it's so weird being busy all day until a certain point. I'm so used to working in dispersed chunks, and having some work at home and some at other places, and now all my work is at other places and when I'm done, I'm done.

Still haven't heard back from the Weitzman Agency yet, but I just checked their Twitter and apparently their last interview was this afternoon, so the earliest they can notify applicants is tomorrow.
