"What do you call that haircut?" "Arthur."

Happy Birthday, neonlivgiraffe!

I am back home, albeit reluctantly.  My sister and I have separation issues; we've lived all of an hour apart for the past two years, and we still don't think it's close enough.  Of course, we are also hindered in that I am the only one with a car - which was my ostensible reason for going up there, anyway.

We actually completed all the apartment searching she wanted to do yesterday.  After a hot, trafficky drive up and an hour sitting at Starbucks (finished Anansi Boys - a little too neatly tied up at the end, but overall, very enjoyable), I picked her up from work and we checked out the apartment.  It's all right - definitely better than the one she's in now - and she's sick of hunting so is banking on getting this one.

On the way back to her current place, we were witness to a scary car accident on Wilshire.  We were waiting to turn left on the street, one car back from the front, when a car making an unprotected left and a car going straight ahead collided as their light turned yellow.  There was smashed glass, busted bumpers, and steam from the engines, but both drivers seemed okay.  Our main concern was how we were going to get out of there (a couple of people from the street went right over to the cars, so no guilt there), which we were able to do fairly simply.  It was nerve-wracking, though, and our youngest sister called right as it happened.  We told her briefly that we were near an accident and would call back, only to find upon calling back that she'd told our mother that we were in an accident.  -_-

With all of that, we were back in just enough time to clear things up and order pizza before Sci-Fi Friday kicked off.  See previous post. ;-)  Today, after a grocery run, we did more slugging around with A Hard Day's Night (I'd never seen it before, but it was about what I expected) and other things on TV, trying to move as little as possible in the ridiculous heat.  I didn't quite convince her to watch BSG, but her roommate is a fan, so I think she'll crack soon.  I stuck around for dinner and PotC 1 before heading home.

I've been back and forth on whether to go to Comic-Con this year, but as it turns out, I might not be able to go Saturday, anyway.  My Davis-based sister and her boyfriend are coming down to LA for the weekend.  She's on a mission to convince him to go to med school in California rather than Texas.  They went to the beach today; apparently, he'd only ever been to the Galveston beach before, which basically means he'd never been to the beach before, which blows my coast-hugging mind.  Anyway, the plans are not concrete, but I'd like to see her since I won't again until Thanksgiving.  I guess Friday is still possible, though.

After watching PotC today, my hankering for an AU in which Vala and Captain Jack Sparrow are pirates together is even stronger. Captain Jack Harkness would be an added bonus.  Go go gadget fic monkeys!
