I got home from work yesterday, and waited for the phone to ring. I had told the guy from Stanford that I would be home from 4:30 on (1;30 their time). Around 6:30, I decide, no sense waiting around to exercise until they call, because probably they're more likely to call WHILE I'm exercising. Sure enough, I pop in a video, and 15 minutes into Step Aerobics, the phone rings!
And here's the jist (sp?). Apparantly they had a much smaller applicant pool than they were expecting. After their first round interviews they only had two people the committee was really interested in, and the other person withdrew her application for family reasons (not moving so far away or something. . .).
In my dreamworld, this is how the conversation would have followed: "So, we'd like to offer you the job, but bring you out to campus to make sure that you're a good fit, and that it's something you want to do." Me: "Oh that sounds wonderful!"
How easy would that have been?!
But alas, life is not a dreamworld. Instead, they are reposting the position, and will review additional applications after July 4. (The main person is going on vacation for 3 weeks starting on the 20th.) But the committee is really interested in me, he said, but understands that I probably have other things on the table.
My thought is: why not just hire ME!! you don't need to find anyone better - I am the best for the job! But I understand that they need to have a larger pool and more well-rounded search process, so they can justify their decision, blah blah blah. And really, I don't want to be hired because I'm the only option, I want to be hired because they realize I'm the best option.
So who knows what's going to happen. I've got the Simmons interview on Tuesday, and maybe that'll end up being something I'm really interested in, and phoo to you Stanford U!
