...because clearly, making this is more interesting than actually getting a decent night's sleep >.>
(this is from that hike/climb in the previous post, if you're wondering)
In other news...classes are going well, despite having somewhat less motivation than last semester. As long as I'm not an idiot and don't stay up late like this a bunch of other times, I'm optimistic about my impending grades.
My rock climbing skills are showing improvements--some by sheer perseverance and practice, others by helpful suggestions by other gym-goers. I now seem to be able to consistently make it up 5.8s, and am showing promise on 5.9 routes, though I'm probably a bit of a ways from actually completing one. Still on pretty beginner-like bouldering routes...
I'm looking forward to an upcoming trip into the mountains soon, one entailing one of my first real experiences with winter camping (lest you count freezing my butt off in the 'Dacks in February sleeping in a lean-to right next to a giant parking lot!). Apparently sleeping bag liners are a rip-off, so I'll figure out other ways to get my 20-degree bag a bit toastier at night (yes, I've already considered getting a golden retriever in there, but I lack the requisite canine ;)
It sounds like my parents are making a substantial move to a city about 6 hours away from where they are now. My stepdad apparently wants a change in scenery, as well as the opportunity to be closer to his grandkids. My mom is less thrilled, as she'll be leaving behind the couple of good friends she's finally made. At least it sounds like the new neighborhood will be less of a soulless, cookie-cutter-house-filled tract of land than the old. I suppose some new hiking territory will be in order when I get the chance to visit them!
I can't think of anything to say regarding the tragedy in Japan that hasn't been said except that the threat from the nuclear power plant in the news is probably overhyped by the media. Sadly, that is the least of their problems...
