Rammstein, Wembley Arena, 4th February 2010

Last night Simon and I went to see Rammstein, which could be nicely summed up as pantomime for pyros and perverts. They were even better than the last time I saw them in 2002, although the best songs and the ones that really got the crowd going are still the ones from that era. The new album is very good too though.

The stage show was spectacular, Flake sailed out on to the audience in a dinghy again, was showered with fireworks and set on fire from a great height by Till and then emerged wearing a holographic sequin suit. Till got a gigantic cock-cannon and sprayed the first twenty feet of the audience with foam for "Pussy".

But mostly it involved fire - flames coming up from the stage, flames from the wings, flame throwers attached to their faces, exploding baby dolls for "Weiner Blut" and finally flames coming from the massive wings Till wore for the final encore of "Engel". Even from row R of the upper seating block we could feel the heat from the flames on our faces. It was absolutely awesome, and hysterically funny at times.

I should also mention support from Combichrist, who I didn't think I'd like, but according to Simon they were using a rockier sound than usual and they were quite fun. There should be more bands featuring heavily tattooed men stripped to the waist banging bits of metal, why aren't there?
