Beardo recently got a Kindle and it has reignited both our loves of reading. I needed a cleanser after reading a couple zombie novels, so I started reading a childhood favorite: Laura Ingalls Wilder. If you've only ever seen the show, it's really very different, so much was glossed over or made up for television. The books, especially to a girl who grew up in rural Wisconsin, are so bittersweet that I started to cry just seeing the covers. An autobiographical tale covering a lifetime, there are so many good things that happen, and bad things. Reading the first book, Little House in the Big Woods, I remember enough that I get a ping of nostalgia and a flash of the future when a name or object is mentioned, and the words seem to almost dance...they are like a song in your head where you almost know the lyrics, but can't quite get them right, but as soon as you hear them you know they're correct.
I used to read the first several books over and over and over, but the later ones less so. I never finished Farmer Boy at all. Now that I am older, and have a child of my own, I will likely have a new appreciation for much that I didn't as an impatient, naive girl.
