10 As Gerard pulled me towards the showers I had gathered what was going on, after all that had happened while I had been here everything just seemed to be repeating it's self. I knew when I entered the shower room I was not going to like what I saw. I didn't even want to picture it, I had seen too many deaths in such a sort amount of time and I wasn't sure if I could handle seeing anther person have their lives ripped away from them. I had completely forgotten about Jamie, I think Gerard had too as he didn't say one word to her but instead kept saying things to me that weren't making any sense. Gerard had been so calm about the other deaths; I didn't understand why he was freaking so bad over this one. It was usually me that freaked out and Gerard had to look after me and tell me it was going to be okay, but this time he was panicking but I was remaining silent.
Even though I couldn't see her, I could hear Jamie running behind us, taking in deep breaths as she ran, she was either panicking worse than Gerard or she wasn't so good at running. She of course had no idea what she was going to be seeing, she didn't know everything that had happened around here otherwise I'm sure they wouldn't have come in the first place.
When we got to the showers the lights were switched on and everything seemed normal, but then Gerard lead us in, not letting go of my hand if anything squeezing it harder as he already knew exactly what was in there. The light was so bright it stung my eyes a little but it didn't hurt my eyes as much as what I saw in the last shower in the corner.
She had to go, she had to be destroyed. Letting someone get in the way isn't a part of the plan, what would happen if they fell in love? The showers were flicked on and her humming was loud. The last one in the shower, alone. A gap in the curtain was to be seen through as she danced to her little tune, massaging the suds in her hair. The voice would soon be no longer as her neck would be cut deeply.
Step closer, a gasp from her. Trembling and whimpering, she called out, "Who's there?"
She heard it as she stared deep into the source of her pain; she heard the long draw out, breathy laugh. She couldn't scream it was too late. In a quick hand movement, blood poured from her neck and then a knife driven repeatedly into her heart.
Footsteps came from outside, she was now alone and gone.
"Oh my god!" I whispered whilst placing my free hand over my mouth. There was Sarah in a heap on the floor covered in her own blood. Her throat slit open and gushing crimson blood like a waterfall but the most disturbing thing was the hole in her chest where her heart was suppose to be. Gerard and I moved closer to the body and Jamie stayed behind us, we purposely blocked her way so she couldn't see her best friend in the state she was in. Gerard's grip on my hand tightened again as we hovered over the body. I could feel my stomach turn and clench, a lump form in my throat and before I knew it I was dry heaving over the body. The smell and the look of it was enough to make me puke my guts out.
Gerard didn't seem to notice the smell so much, his eyes where transfixed on the lifeless body still under the running water. Her lips were now blue and what wasn't covered in blood was blue too. Jamie must have seen the body as she shrieked so loud then burst out into a fit of sobs, shouting 'no' over and over again. Gerard turned to look at her and had to hold her back as she tried to get near to Sarah, letting go of my hand in the process.
"Shhh, its okay, calm down," Gerard kept repeating to her, holding her close to his body whilst rubbing the back of her neck. My full attention was now on the act in front of me and not the body any more. He way he was touching her, just like he had done for me so many times I had needed it. That was only meant for me; at least I had thought he had only wanted me. A feeling of jealousy and hurt surged through my body and all I could think was how I wished it was her that had died.
Maybe the second I had wished her dead she stopped crying. At first I was confused, but then she started to gasp for air and moved away from Gerard and held onto the tiled wall. Soon the gasps for air turned into coughing and spluttering which soon turned into coughing up blood. We both saw it, the knife that had been stabbed into her back, right where her windpipe went up her back, right through the spine.
"What the fuck?" Gerard whispered under his breath. I was thinking the same, we were both to much in shock to even think to help her, and all I could think about was where the knife had come from, we thought we had been alone. She slid to the floor still gasping and choking on her own blood, but it was quickly fading and blood was smeared on the walls. As she took her last breath another person showed themselves in the room, someone I could not identify, but Gerard could.
"Mikey?" Gerard choked out. He sounded like his throat had closed up as he was in that much shock but so upset. Mikey stepped out from where he had been hiding in another shower stall. He wasn't like I had imagined. His hair was longish, coming in his eyes that were supported by thick black glasses. He wore a black jacket, grey jeans and a grey beanie. His pants had blood on, some were fresh stains but others were old and had stained brown and orange. His face was sickly pale and his eyes had brown rings around them, he looked fierce. His face pointed at odd angles helping him look dangerous.
"Mikey?" Gerard repeated, but more to himself, as though he had to say it over until he believed that his baby brother, who he had thought dead and gone, was stood in front of him. Mikey smiled, it made his face seam less angry and more childlike. Mikey nodded, but Gerard shook his head. "But, you're dead!" Gerard shouted, also letting tears fall down his face.
Mikey moved forward so that we were face to face with Gerard. Mikey was looking all over Gerard's face and lifted his hand up to wipe away the tears that had fallen. Gerard looked so afraid of Mikey's hand, but didn't stop him. I remained silent and left unnoticed, I was in shock. Mikey shushed Gerard as he began to whimper and struggle to move away from Mikey.
"Please don't Gerard, they never found my body remember? I survived!" Mikey said holding his brother by the arms and shaking him slightly. Gerard started to cry harder and carried on shaking his head. I could tell he was having a hard time processing everything that had just happened. I couldn't even imagine what could have been running through his head. How do you deal with something like that? Gerard was in denial though, he just wouldn't accept it.
"Did… was it you that killed all those people?" Gerard asked his voice shaky and unsure. Mikey smiled and nodded his head. Upon seeing Mikey smile over it made a strange noise rise from Gerard's throat, possibly from fear of his younger sibling. "But why?" Gerard cried. Mikey looked as though he was about to cry now as though he was upset that Gerard didn't understand his reasons for taking people away from this world, but he just leapt into his brother's arms as they held each other so tightly together.
"I did it for you! I did it for your happiness!" Mikey cried as they carried on hugging.
"What do you mean?" Gerard asked pulling away from the hug and wiping at his eyes. Mikey looked over at me and smiled again tears making tracks down his face. He took hold of my hand and placed it in Gerard's.
"I did it for you two! Anything that was going to hurt either one of you or get in any of your way, I had to get rid of them! Don't you see Gerard, that red head girl wouldn't have made you as happy as Frank would, you need him!" Gerard didn't see what Mikey was talking about, but I understood completely and saw what he was doing. He had done it to get Gerard and me together, to fall in love so that we could be happy. I had known that we could have been happy, but I didn't think Gerard saw it.
"Are you saying that you killed so many people just so that I could be happy?" Gerard whispered. I could see the way he moved his eyes that he was trying to figure it all out in his head, but what made me happy was that he hadn't let go of my hand. I could tell he was struggling on how to feel towards this, I honestly didn't know how he was coping.
Then I began to wander, I knew why in my dream it had hurt me to be close to Gerard. It was because when I arrived here I was going to go through pain, but I didn’t stay asleep long enough to see how the dream ended. Whether or not I am going to come out pain free and happy or if I’m going to end up more hurt. I couldn’t see that happening though. Mikey had come to open Gerard’s eyes, see that we should be together and I’m glad for it because I would never had done it.
"I think you guys might need some time alone," I said after it had been silent for a while. Gerard nodded but was looking down at the floor and Mikey nodded too. We all walked back to the cabin in silence the only thing to be heard was the music from where the dance was. I left Mikey and Gerard to go into the cabin, I watched through the window at first to make sure everything was okay. Gerard and Mikey sat down on Gerard's bed and hugged a few times and talked. When they looked okay I walked away and over to the lake to give them some privacy.
I waited for a while, just thinking and looking out into the sky. A lot of things had happened since I had arrived here at camp but there was always that one thing in the back of my mind. What happens in the end? What happens when I have to go home and Gerard has to stay here? I couldn't say, no one could know what lies ahead of us. I just hoped it was a happy ending for us, I didn't want to have been through all that I had and nothing come out of it.
I didn't know how long I had been stood there but I never knew Gerard was stood behind me until he wrapped both arms around my waist and rested his chin on my shoulder. I leaned back into him until we was both comfortable.
"I'm sorry," he whispered, his breath tickling my neck.
"What for?" I answered back in the same tone. He spun me around so that I was facing him, our noses just barely touching. He searched my face before he answered; letting his eyes dance from side to side.
"For not realising what was in front of me," he sounded like he was about to cry, but I put that to the whispering. "I'm sorry that I ignored you, us in fact, I couldn't ask enough for your forgiveness so I can make this right," Gerard hung his head between his shoulders and whispered please, over and over again.
"Gerard, you have nothing to be sorry about, I was too scared to do anything. It's just as much me as it was you," Gerard looked up at me and smiled a little. He grabbed my hand and entwined our fingers together, his smile getting bigger as he did so.
"So we can give us a go?" He asked, bringing my hand up to his mouth to place small kisses on.
"I don't see why not," I answered. He dropped my hand and reached for the back of my neck pulling me close so he could do the one thing I've been wanting. His lips against mine were soft, almost like a girl. He was so gentle and caring that it felt like pure bliss. His hand caressed my cheek as he began to move his lips more against mine, me going just as fast back. We both opened our mouths in unison to allow the other person in, out tongues touching for a first time sending vibes through my body.
He pulled away before anything got too heated and rested his head against mine as we caught our breaths. His eyes were closed, but when he opened them and saw me looking back he smiled and placed another soft kiss to my lips.
"Come on," he said taking my hand back in his, "I want you to meet my little brother. And properly,"
It may not have been a fairytale ending but we did end up walking away hand in hand.
