We had a great Christmas Eve dinner with
seriouspenguin, the Penguin Consort,
oy_squad, and My Awesome Dad last night. We opened presents before dinner and everyone came away with at least one good surprise.
seriouspenguin was surprised, a little, to find that the
green clapotis I had worked so hard on was for her. As I said, "Of course it's for you, it was always for you! What am I going to do with a wool scarf in Saigon?" The Penguin Consort was surprised by his scarf and wore it for the rest of the day. He asked when I knitted it, and said with me, "right in front of you!"
Trash was thrilled with his copy of
Long Way Round, so now he has another book to read on the plane. My Awesome Dad was also very happy with his DVD of same, and everyone watched the first two episodes of same while dinner finished cooking. My Awesome Dad found
this really cool book of photographs for Trash. It's a fascinating book, and all the photos were taken in and around Saigon.
Finally, after much cursing and threatening of Gordon Ramsey's life, I managed to get the flimsy, tearing, and crumbly crust onto the pie and it baked up beautifully.
That top-only crust tasted just like a lemon scone and mixed deliciously with the fruits.
Today, Trash,
oy_squad, and I will be celebrating Channukah in the way of his People: by going to a movie and eating Chinese food. Yay!
Also, I win at newspapers three weeks in a ROW. It's a Christmas miracle!
Happy Hols everyone!
