Looking back on my life, one of the most rewarding experiences was working with at risk youth. Sadly I had lost interest in my particular job BECAUSE I spent way too much time presenting workshops across the nation and/or spending so many hours in my office writing grants.... Those were the aspects that totally turned me off.... However, I completely enjoyed the community service projects I participated in with the kids who I mentored. I also enjoyed tutoring the kids... For so long I've aimed high, applying for jobs in which I'm certified to have but today I realized that those jobs are not the jobs im interested in; I much rather be working one on one with the youth.
So yeah, Im trying hard to make this portland adventure work out. In doing so, I've applied at a number of jobs which are geared toward assisting youth in one way or another. At first I thought I'd go down there, get a job which pays the bills, take a few classes, and mentor at juvinile diversion programs during my free time. Once I started applying for jobs, I discovered a vast amount which are exactly what Im interested in. Right now my number one pick is at a homeless youth shelter. Im not entirely sure what the job entails, but I get the gest of it and Im SUPER fucken excited so I really hope I get contacted for an interview. And bonus, no paper work or workshops or outta town trips which means more one on one time with the kids.
Sierra and I are FOR SURE headed down to Portland on Dec. 19th and staying at her friend Matts. We've been planning this for sometime but couldn't make it happen for so many reasons but FINALLY we're doing it. Im sooo stoked!
