It was a date.

A real live date. Not running around con getting as much attention as possible and randomly bumping into one another. Not passing the baby back and forth in a busy restaurant while we take turns eating and entertaining.

It was him and me over drinks, dinner and a dance floor remembering why it is we stick together through all this. The time alone in the middle of a mostly empty room reconnecting and talking about everything and anything. Coming home and starting with the boots and working our way up. Passing out in a pile of sweat and endorphins with no interruption and then waking at a leisurely pace when I felt like it; there's only one word, amazing.

We started with drinks and a light dinner at Charlies on Broadway, then walked over to the Merc for another drink and dancing. I took it slow. Had only three drinks all night and stayed pleasantly buzzed through passing out. I need to remember this for con. Slow drinking is much more fun and memorable...

Bry and I needed this so very badly. Just the two of us reconnecting on a romantic level rather than the practical level we function at during the weeks and days of baby raising. Its not healthy. We realize this and we agreed last night that we are going to work on doing things like this a lot more often.

Bless my mothers spontaneity and compassionate heart. We were talking on the phone and I mentioned that I was tired and still a little sick. She offered to take Abi for a few hours so I could rest. I agreed to that, though really, if you give that sweet lady an inch.... The conversation progressed to keeping her for the evening so Bry and I could go out, then turned into keeping Abi for the whole night so we both could get some much needed sleep and just enjoy our night out. Again, bless my mother a billion times over. I think she needed it as much as we did. She visited my great-grandmother yesterday who is pretty much just giving up on life. She's sleeping a lot and doesn't take care of herself. Its really sad so I think my mama needed an Abi fix to help her celebrate life.

Now I need to start working with local moms (either ones that still have their kid at home or not) and or skilled kid handlers so that Bry and I can continue this trend of 1-2 date nights a month while we wait for my mother to move back into the state.

date, reconnecting, mama, bry
