I'm really surprised that Red didn't do better than it did. It plays like an old school action movie from the 70s or 80s. Certainly appropriate considering the cast, look it up on imdb if you're not familiar.
Now, I understand that younger viewers might not be interested - no Matrix-effects and a cast of "old" people would probably steer them away. But what about the middle aged people that grew up on those older movies and with these actors? Have they become so jaded that it's all about younger and louder for them as well? So sad.
Yes, I didn't see it in the theater either, or buy it when it first came out, but instead eventually picked it up when it was on sale. I wasn't too impressed with the original miniseries, and then there was little to no buzz when it came through. Those two factors made it a pass for me. But it should have had more buzz.
Maybe it just came out at the wrong time and got overshadowed by something else, I don't remember what else was out when it was released.
I'll write more about it later. While it did have some faults, it did many things very well.
