Yes, I really am posting at 2AM! I have monologue class tomorrow night, have only written 6 Christmas cards, etc. so I thought this would be a good opportunity to glug the Mountain Dew and stay up all night to get crap done! I'm on call for the store tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully they won't need me and I can sleep.
I hadn't listened to my lesson tapes for a while and when I did tonight, I discovered that I need fresh batteries. My Heldentenor voice teacher sounded like a gay countertenor, my butch lesbian voice coach sounded like Kristen Chenowyth, and I sounded like something between Snow White and the Chipmunks. Pretty amusing.
I read two plays Weds night--most of the books I ordered from the library arrived so I skipped church choir to read. And I'm slogging through the second Shakespeare play--Henry IV part 2. I have to get 10 monologues together for the evening. I used my monologue books as a starting point but you still have to read the entire play to learn more about the character. I read Master Class which I loved, of course, but I don't think I'm old enough to play Maria Callas yet.
I should be singing another audition this week--for a church choir conductor. Hopefully that will lead to some gainful employment. I also signed up for the North Star Opera auditions. They are performing Iolanthe (G&S again!) in June. Hopefully, I will fare better with this group. My coach is the accompanist for the auditions, and maybe the rehearsals too. I'm not sure if it's paid at all but I think it's a higher calibre than the other group. Never a dull moment! Supposed to have a voice lesson on Sunday. I hope he doesn't cancel. Then he has promised to find me a regular time so we can just get a schedule!
I applied for a church choir director job. Found out later that it's LCMS which is the conservative Lutherans--they don't allow women to be pastors, the degree to which they allow outsiders to receive communion and women to have leadership roles in the church is up to each congregation. So if this church is on the more liberal end, it would be tolerable for a few months. And if it pays well enough that would make it even more tolerable!
Well, I'd better get back to my real work. I have lots of typing and reading to do yet tonight!
