I'm impressed with your bravery to launch yourself into a sea of strangers for a weekend of adventure. I haven't done anything that dramatic recently in the pursuit of love, but then I haven't had a good crush in a while, either. It is a shame we are on opposite ends of the monogamy spectrum ;)
As far as cruise ships go, I find them pretty bizarre. I went on a 15 day cruise with my brother a few years ago after we had both been through crappy breakups. It was a luxury line (he worked for them and got free tickets) and a relatively small ship (800 people), and he was able to smooze us into a balcony room, which I found delightful. It was a holiday cruise and there were probably 12 passengers under 40, but the food was quite good, and we got to snorkel a good deal. What weirded me out was the underlying class issues: Dutch commanders, Indonesian labor; rich tourists, poor islands. No one really talked about it at all, but I felt it was an enormous elephant that got in the way of my sunshine. But I did get a lot of reading done. And after a few days, I really liked the motion of the boat and slept quite well. I'd consider doing this again, under the right circumstances, but not one of those big party boats...unless it was a crazy theme boat with people I was into.
It was out of character for me as well, which was part of the reason I did it. And yeah, I don't crush very often either, less than once per year, so why not go for it?
