Saucy suggested I finally get on my bike and ride today, and I did.
It's beautiful out today. My bottom bracket is pretty trashed from 3 years of Burning Man, so I rode up to Greggs. They didn't have what I wanted, so down to Recycled to get the part (and custom tool; woo, toys!). Also spent some time pawing through the bins of pretty used parts. Not pretty like new and shiny, put pretty like mechanical things that have been lubed, used, gotten gritty, worn. Loved. People get confused when the hear that I rarely ride my three bikes, but have a basement full of parts and tools. I like the politics of bikes, and it's pleasant as exercicse goes, but I love the mechanics. That's the real me.
That said, I always forget how much fun it is to be on a bike. The freedom and agility and all of the instincts and reflexes waking up. The nearest thing to flying that I know. A good thing.
