Bike quote of the (previous) week(end)

Jun 27, 2008 16:21

Last Saturday, after the Fremont Solstice Parade, a number of us were sitting on top of the hill in Gasworks park, by the sundial. Also at the top of the hill were a bunch of bike-messenger types, who were riding their fixies around and generally having a good time.

Jer and I talked bikes briefly with a few of them. At one point, he and I are talking to the largest, burliest of the messenger types, and Jer, in his deadpan way, almost gave me a heart attack. The exchange went like this:

Jer: Fixies are for poser hipsters [this is when I cringed and assumed a brawl was about to break out] who are too lame to ride unicycles.
Burly messenger: ... uh, yeah, I can't ride a unicycle.
Jer: I mean, fixies are basically unicycles with a training wheel.
Burly messenger: Huh, yeah, I guess they are.

The conversation continued amicably, my pulse returned to normal, and everyone had a lovely day.

humor, bikes, fixies
