For various reasons I've been working from home a fair bit lately. I can use cisco vpn and remote desktop from my mac to get to my win box at work but then all personal network traffic (like this post) goes through the work network, which is sub-optimal.
So here's the better solution:
1) install parallels desktop on the mac and run windows in it
2) install cisco vpn on my windows in a window
3) run remote desktop from win in a win
I now have a secure connection from my windows running in a window, and the rest of my traffic is as usual. Furthermore, the windows box is full screened on my laptop, while the mac is full screened on my external monitor. It's like having my work box under my desk at home, sharing a keyboard and mouse with my mac, with no KVM switching necessary beyond moving the mouse seamlessly from one screen to the other.
To complete the trifecta (trinity? triumvirate? hat trick?), I've opened a terminal window to run top, just because I can. :)
