The bar is open! Also have an exploring doctor! Both open!

Vila was running the bar tonight and things were off to a good start as far as nights go. It wasn't overly busy Vila had time to chat it up with customers and summarily ended up downing a few himself. Vila relished this place, his job, HELL he even liked Rimmer who wasn't the easiest person to get along with, not that Vila would tell the man he ( Read more... )

"Of all the bars in all the spaceports in all the universes...you happen to be running what appears to be the only one here." Avon sauntered in, looking down his long nose at the surroundings, making a big show of avoiding nonexistent sticky patches on the floor. He went up the bar and leaned against it, flashing a broad grin. "I don't suppose I can get a tab?"

Vila smirked, it was nice to see Avon joking with little menace in his voice or demeanor, though he just wouldn't be Avon if he wasn't just a the tiniest bit of an ass.

"We have a rule for men like you. You pay more." He smirked back and brought the Soma out and two glasses, Vila downed the glass of alcohol he had been drinking, one had to make room for a drink with an old friend after all!

Avon tsked. "I suppose I'm paying for the pleasure of your dazzling company?" he drawled, resting his elbows on the bar.

"I had no idea you were a cat, Vila...you seem to have landed on your feet here."

"I would say if that's the case I have a lot more money coming my way, after all the countless days of entertainment I gave you and the rest of the crew. I think I deserve a bit of coin for my trouble." He poured the drinks and saluted Avon with the glass as he raised to take a drink.

"I'm glad someone finally noticed my cat like elegance and finesse. Not that this place makes it hard to land on one's feet, nobody to really bother you here. No federation taxing you to death or near death or trying to tell you how to do. Pretty nice set up I think."

"I can't argue with that," Avon agreed, most amicably for him. He returned the salute and sipped his own drink. "Ah. A taste of home. Thank you for reminding me." He wasn't even clear himself on whether he meant that sarcastically or not.

"Your interpretation of my comment says more about you than it does me. However, you make a good point. After two years being hunted by Servalan, shot at by Travis, and invited to commit group suicide at every opportunity by our glorious leader, this is a virtual paradise. And no despots in sight - on either side."

"Glad I could oblige." That was said honestly, while home wasn't exactly homey, Vila felt it was important to remember the good things about it. Whether Avon had anything good to say about home or not was irrelevant.

"Your lucky you've only suffered two. It just gets worse..." Vila took a long pool from his, nearly emptying the glass of it's contents.

"So, what do you think you'll do now your in a rather comfortable position?"

"Oh, me?" Avon smiled innocently. "I haven't decided yet. I haven't been doing much of anything lately. Aside from meeting my son, of course," he added, casually. "

Vila sputtered at the word son.

"What? What son? With who? What?" This thought was almost tooo much for the thief. Avon getting busy? With a female? Enough to have a son? It was the most unfair thing to happen in ever!

Avon smirked at the reaction he'd achieved. "Oh, I'm sure you wouldn't want to hear about that...." he teased, smugly. "He's from a parallel universe, anyway...in the future. It would seem that everybody knows more about my future than I do." There was a touch of growly petulance there. "At least in this one I appear to have some sort of life that doesn't involve following maniacs into the fires of hell five times a day." Probably.

Avon abruptly realised that in bringing up this subject, he would have to explain eventually that both his son, and the boy's other father, were androids. It wouldn't do much to discourage the notion that Avon preferred machines to people.

Vila was very frowny, very frowny indeed. How could Avon have a son? It just didn't make sense, besides they died didn't they? This alternate universe stuff made one's headache. Vila poured himself another glass and took a great swig.

"Join the club. Apparently the bloke I run this place with knew me in an entirely different sort of dimension. The village I think he said something like that. Anyway, he knows stuff about me, so I can understand it being a bit unnerving." Especially because Avon was who he was, naturally paranoid.

"Oh? Who? Perhaps we should pool our information," Avon suggested, raising an eyebrow as Vila swigged down the alcohol. "The village, indeed. Sounds like one of those surreal pre-Federation viscasts."

"His name's Rimmer. He's a hard light hologram. He knows stuff about me and well, us, in general. Apparently he knows me in this other universe." Vila shrugged. "I don't know, but I do know that he's not Federation, not even the Federation is that desperate for recruits."

"Hologram?" Avon repeated. "I'd like to see that. Did he tell you anything interesting?" He drained his glass and pushed it back towards Vila for a refill. "What was this other Vila like? If we put the two of you together in one room, we'd get four arms, two heads, and half a brain." He grinned. "Unless you're going to tell me that your alternate self is some kind of supergenius. I'd believe anything at this stage."

"Yeah, though you might be interested in him. Don't know how he does it and walk around touching things but I am sure you'll figure it all out." He poured the man another glass and topped himself off as well.

"Hey at least with all those arms and legs I would be more then a match for the Federation, what with all my various skills. I think he was just me. Same time and everything. Nothing drastically different as far as I have heard."

"Odd, isn't it. Alternate versions of ourselves, running around some parallel reality...and one of mine fathered a son. Or rather, built one." Avon picked up his drink and stared into its depths, turning the glass to refract the light through the liquid. "He's an android."

He pretended not to be watching Vila for a reaction.

"Build?" Why would he need to build one. A smirk reappeared on Vila's once confused visage. Why yes, Avon, he was about to say it.

"Couldn't get the juices flowing? Ahh well, for the best. You like mechanical things better then you like people anyway. Is it Slave's as well? I knew you two were having a tawdry love affair."
