"Other ways that Burt has mentioned are explosives, and luring it into running full speed into an immovable obstruction. The worm form doesn't have a head to remove, and there is no real neck on the walking form, though beheading might work on the flying form."

Buffy probably should have paid more attention in Science. She thought worms had heads. "Huh, okay. I can lure it into running that won't be a problem and if you guys set up an explosive I can have it run into it. I did that for the Mayor. Uh, not a human mayor, a big ol' snakified Mayor."

“He wanted to ascend to become a demon. Seriously. Why would someone want to do that? Besides it wasn’t like he’d be himself only a demon, he turned into this giant snake right in the middle of graduation. Yeah, my graduation sucked.” Literally with all the vampires that had been there.

"It didn't." Buffy confirmed. "He blew up in a giant explosion at the library." When you didn't have a handy volcano to erupt and kill an ascending demon you did what you had to do. "It was an improvised thing but the point is that bad guys always think their plans are going to work and it never does."

Of course if you didn't have a Giles to figure out how to improvise or a Willow to be clever to get the key information from some text thingy then the bad guy might have won.

Kirk looked, and was, completely baffled, but he wasn't at all certain that asking the young woman to explain would produce anything but more confusion. He did his best to guess.

"We sometimes say people 'act without thinking', but that is not really true. People sometimes act without thinking carefully. These creatures do not think at all. They react in pre-set ways to stimuli, as if they were machines. For exapmple noise vibrations in the ground push the 'chase' button."

Buffy snickered, “so they’re like vampires and demons.” She was being a smart ass. “Sometimes it’s easier to battle against something like that.” It was always easier to battle minions than it was to go after a Master vampire like Angelus.

"Salt vampire? The Doctor told me about the vampires in his world and they seemed different but I've never heard of a salt vampire. What do they do? Suck the salt out of our bodies?" Which caused Buffy to make an EWW face at that mental image.

"Exactly." he agreed with both the summation and the 'ewww' face. "The lifeform had some rudimentary telepathy, and could appear to be someone you knew, so that you would allow the touch."

"Ugh, you mean they shape shifted or they made you think they were someone else?" That would be horrible and potentially embarrassing. "Did you kill them with a stake through the heart?"
