Rose tried not to feel a pang at seeing someone else being called the Doctor. She knew they were the same man and that this one (as well as the other one) was from a time before hers. A time before the Time War that changed him in so many ways. She wasn’t about to be left behind when there was some exploring to be done. She didn’t ask any questions because she knew from experience that you couldn’t really be prepared for anything until you were there.

Burt noticed the quiet lady in the room and was not shure if she was prepared for this and anybody in a group that included Burt was going to be as prepared as he could help them become.
"Excuse me Ma'am. I am Burt, Burt Gummer. I noticed you are one of the few unarmed types here and would like to loan you my .44 Desert Eagle. It is the most powerful handgun I got and it has served me well before. I have 3 mags of ammo for it and if you are unfamiliar I could give you a quick block of instruction on how to use it."

"Been awhile but I've been trained with a gun." Rose smiled at Burt and held out her hand. "I'm Rose, Rose Tyler. I'll shoot if I have to but I'd rather use my wits. Have you tried talking to the Graboids?" Like the Doctor, she'd rather resolve peacefully if she could before resorting to violence.

"As far as anybody can tell Graboids are animals. If they have a language I don't think we can ever learn it. They are smart though and they get smarter every time we face them. By the way, Ive got no problem with a person who prefers to use their wits. Just want everybody who goes down there to have options. Do you think The Doctor knows how to shoot? I could loan him my .45 Colt."

The image of her first Doctor standing in front of the Dalek holding the big gun flashed in her memory and she nodded. “Yeah, he knows how to shoot, he doesn’t like to though.” She glanced at both the Doctors in the room with a soft smile. “I think he’ll be all right without your Colt but that’s nice of you to offer it up.”

"There where's a little complicated but the when is easy enough. I'm from 2009. I'm from a Earth but in a parallel one from when I started." Rose laughed. "My life got a bit complicated after a bloke took my hand and told me to run. When are you from? I'm going to assume you're from a world that knows about aliens with the Graboids and all."

When I last left Earth it was 1997. I don't think there were aliens on Earth at all. Graboids were discovered to be Pre-Cambrian but still from Earth. You sound British. You probably can tell I am American. I live in a geographically isolated town called Perfection in Nevada, or I did until I ended up here. I moved there to prepare for World War III but when the Soviet Union collapsed I was...at a loss. But then the Graboids came and I have been a busy man ever since.

“Seriously? They’re not aliens? They’re what was on Earth before?” Rose blinked in surprise at that. She’d assumed they were aliens like the Nestine Consciousness and other oozie, wormy, rhino looking, Mr. Potato head type aliens that she’d met.

As far as anybody can tell. My old buddy Earl was a bit upset when he herd the news. He was sure they came from outer space but his wife is a geologist and she said she found their fossils in pre-Cambrian rock. That was just before Earl blew up my truck and made a crater 75 yards wide filled with Shirker body parts. That was about 5 years ago in Mexico.

Rose blinked in confusion. "Sorry. Your friend blew up your truck? I will guess that it was infested with Shirkers or does your friend usually do that?" She didn't really know what a Shirker was but assumed it had something to do with graboids.

Well that was when we first found out Graboids turn into Shriekers. We had them trapped in a barn where my truck was parked but it wasn't going to hold. The little sightless brutes were already busting at the doors. My buddy Earl got in through the top window after we sprayed him with a fire extinguisher to keep his body heat low. Once inside he didn't really know what to do so he tossed a bomb in my truck. Trouble was it was MY truck. I had over 400 pounds of high explosives in it. When he came out and told me what he did all I could say was RUN! I was told that the fireball was seen over 150 miles away by some cannabis farmer who gave up pot that day.

Rose just looked at him, letting that sink in. “Uh, do you normally carry that much explosives in your truck or was that a special case?” She was beginning to wonder about Gummer. Not in a terrorist way, he seemed nice enough but in a paranoid, save food for the apocalypse, live in a cave way.

"Well...The Mexican Government hired us to help them with a Graboid problem. As part of the deal they said we could 'brow' anything we wanted from the Mexican Army. Ive got to admit I was like a kid in a candy store but at least we were prepared."

Rose felt a little better that it was a special case though wondered why he took payment in explosives. Sometimes ignorance was bliss so she didn’t ask.

“So is that how you got rid of the Graboids? Or are they still a problem where you were?” Rose knew that time was in flux and that what she knew about her past could change in an instant.

Well, they are mostly contained in Perfection and there hasn't been an incursion anywhere else for years. My valley has been declared a Federal Preserve for this "endangered species" which creates a weird situation for me. Well I better go and make a few last minute preparations before we go down to Earth. Pleasure talking to you miss. take care with that pistol.
