I went and got tested for HIV this morning. The local Aids Alliance did the rapid test for free. I wasn't too worried about the results simply because I am smart enough to choose partners wisely (when I let them get that far), and play safe. Having said all that, there are always things you should be concerned about if you're out and active in the community. The testing took no time at all. Ten minutes and had the results (negative). It's a relief of course, because those ten minutes sure seemed awful long. Sure, as mentioned, I knew I really didn't have anything to worry about. Still, while sitting in that chair waiting I couldn't help but mull over my choices of the past year and where I could have went wrong. Was my ex safe and smart when he played around? Was those drunken fumblings of my own as safe as I thought? You honestly never know until the test results come back.
I was going to make this a private post but thought maybe not this time. If it encourages just one other person to get tested, just to know, then it's only for the good. Knowledge is power.
