META: The Six-Year Carousel Ride of Dean Angst & the Hope for Progress in S7
So....I've been vaulting my ep reactions the last couple of weeks. Because I honestly haven't known what to DO with the last two episodes. They did these things where they went much further and called back to the past much clearer than I expected them to go, and in that respect I LOVED THEM. that before they did they'd wipe the slate a little by mining and repairing those recurring dramas/issues from the first seasons.
Yessss! That's the thing, I keep hearing people just want Sam and Dean to be right with each other again, but I can't help but want that to be EARNED. You know? They snap their fingers and they're fine again, that's not true and organic to the series. That's what it felt like they did in S6, which as a temporary given the situation made sense. But now they're bringing all this stuff back again after letting it settle. It's disconcerting, and yet potentially delicious!
that is still raw inside me, for heaven's sake. And if I never felt things like that were resolved properly, I can't imagine how it would feel to be the characters themselves.
Yup! I got the same feeling with that flashback. I'm still so taken aback that they USED that, you know? That's very bold to say that's so in the forefront of Dean's mind still. If we as fans feel it's still so raw, I can't help but think the writers think the same thing.
FINALLY we will have Dean let Sam look after him. It's kind of scary to think how the show might change if their dynamic does, after so long, but I want it so much anyway.
I know right?! We got a glimpse of it in 5.18 and ever since that episode I've just been like OMG THIS PLEASE WANT MORE! It would change their dynamic, but I think, only for the better. This "it's a two way street, you've got my back, I've got yours" it's just words until Dean believes it and is comfortable leaning on Sam like Sam has always leaned on Dean. So to speak. This stripping the boys of all their resources this season, I think they're gonna have to make good on that finally. *crosses fingers like mad*
