WHAT?!
I guess it shouldn't surprise me, but it kind of does. Al Gore earned the Nobel Peace Prize this weekend. How fantastic is that? The fact that he won because of his work showing the public what we're doing to this world in terms of pollution it's effects on global warning...is not the surprise. The kind of shocking but not shocking part is this...the "conservatives" that get the airtime on television have such hatred for Gore, that they can't even stand the fact that he was given the Nobel Prize. That's fine, we supposedly live in a country where we can think what we want, but to compare Gore with Yassir Arrafat, because Arrafat also was given the Nobel Prize once, is simply dumb. It is dumb because they also name Arrafat as a terrorist, and if Arrafat was a terrorist and won the Nobel Prize, than Gore is also a terrorist because he won the Nobel Prize. What the hell? Sure I voted for Gore in 2000, and sure I was upset and semi bittered to our "American" system when he had the election stolen from him. But...I tried to move on. First I want to say something to Sean Hannity on Fox "news." How can you simply say that if you were given the prize (which you'll never be offered by the way, because you actually have to do something that helps humans) that you wouldn't accept it, because you don't want an award that has been given to a terrorist, then say that you'd give it to the American Troops? You are full of crap! You cannot say that you support the troops, then say you hate the nobel peace prize because it's tainted by terrorists, then say you'd give it to our troops. You're a moron! I've tried not to resort to stupid name calling, as I like to think that my education has taught me to more elloquantly speak my mind, and for my ideas, but I can't do it anymore. You are simply going for ratings, Mr. Hannity. Let me spell this out for you...you won't accept the award because it is tainted by a terrorist, but will give it to the troops you say you support. Why are you willing to give an award that is tainted by a terrorist to the troops you say you support? Whom do you hate, Mr. Hannity? Let me ask this, because I think we could answer this much easier. Whom do you love, Mr. Hannity? Yourself. You love yourself. You are a class act jerk. A classic "American" a-hole.
I digress. My big question is this....I attend seminary with a bunch of great people. People with big hearts. People with big minds, not always big heads, but big minds. Why are we mostly silent about what is happening in this world? WHY?! Why is the majority of this country silent about what this administration is doing? We are killing innocent people, we are being killed in return. We are torturing people, I don't care what anybody says these people are or planned to do...we are torturing people. We are opening up ourselves to be subject to the same behavior if ever we are caught by another government. We are being destroyed every day...little by little, billions of dollars by billions of dollars. The poor of this nation are becoming poorer, and more forgotten. All the while, we have idiots on television capturing the minds of the mindless people of this nation with comments as dumb as putting someone down for getting the Nobel Peace Prize. On the otherhand, do I expect someone who supports this pointless war to understand or comprehend the "Peace Prize?"
I can't totally blame President Moron for our troubles. We also have a Congress that is more worried about their re-election that they've forgotten how to do the right thing? What is the right thing? I can understand the Congress not wanting to leave the troops without anything in Iraq...I certainly can understand that. But...if they were to withhold the funds, I feel that the President would have no choice, but to bring them home. We need more than some"one" that will stand up against what is wrong, but we need many.
Now the funny thing is, after re-reading this post, am I talking about the government, or am I talking about the church?
