Rating: G-PG-13 (for one sentence)
Warning[s]: Liberal construction of the phrase "one sentence", super-long sentences
Notes: Yes, I finally finished this!!!! First YunJae fic - hopefully there'll be lots more to come!
#1 comfort - Fifteen-year old Jaejoong’s only source of comfort to his sweaty hands and sweaty voice was that the other boy’s hands were just as sweaty, his voice just as shaky as he said, “Nice to meet you, too - I’m Jung Yunho.”
#2 kiss - This boy (girl?) across from him was too beautiful to be a boy, yet too handsome to be a girl, with full, cherry lips begging to be k--- Yunho ruthlessly snapped himself out of his reverie.
#3 soft - Replying the choreography in his mind, he almost missed the boy’s (yes, he was a boy) soft whisper, “You’re very good at dancing...Yunho.”
#4 pain - Five barely-friends moved into their newly shared apartment, knowing that this was their new home, their new family and each mercilessly shoved the dull ache of homelessness to the very corners of their hearts, to be buried underneath packed schedules, tv appearances, and song lyrics.
#5 potatoes - Jaejoong smiled at the memory of their leader in the middle of a coughing fit, eyes watering and face red, and added potatoes to dilute the spice of the soup (even though the flavor was just right to him).
#6 rain - “Stop running in the rain or you’ll all get sick,” yelled Yunho, but he couldn’t stop the smile creeping on his handsome face as he watched Junsu, Changmin, Yoochun and Jaejoong stepping on puddles and splashing each other, their laughter adding harmony to the drip drip of raindrops kissing the ground.
#7 chocolate - “I told you, no chocolate before dinner,” and after a pout and sad expression formed on the maknae’s face-- “Nope, this expression does not work on me, Changmin,” said Jaejoong, tapping a ladle on the youngest’s nose, and Yunho smothered his laughter with a cough.
#8 happiness - Five now-close friends returned to their apartment after a long day, fast asleep on each other’s shoulder, leg, or arm as a makeshift pillow, and each thought, maybe this wasn’t so bad after all.
#9 telephone - Remembering his manager’s suggestion, “the fans like it when you two act intimate,” Yunho tentatively embraced Jaejoong’s waist, his stomach twisting around and onto itself like a telephone cord.
#10 ears - As he felt his leader’s arms entwining around his waist, Jaejoong remembered their manager’s not-so-subtle advice, “this is all part of your group’s image,” and he leaned back into the embrace, desperately praying that Yunho wouldn’t hear the sound of his heart hammering against his chest.
#11 name - Contrary to his name, there are many things Yunho did not know and could not explain, such as why touching Jaejoong’s arm or resting a hand on his thigh became easier each time until it seemed as natural as breathing.
#12 sensual - “Jaejoong, why can’t you understand my feelings?” asked Yunho, his warm breath a sharp contrast to the chilly night, eyes full of barely suppressed feelings and sincerity, and body so close, too close to his and for a moment, Jaejoong thought this was almost too good to be true - until he heard the director’s “CUT!” and realized -this WAS too good to be true.
#13 death - Despite his young age, Changmin can spot nuances and subtleties others will miss, such as the way Jaejoong’s eyes would look so hollow, as if the life was squeezed out of them each time Yunho talked about his future of being married to a beautiful wife with kids.
#14 sex - Their actions were almost like a mating ritual gone wrong, thought Yoochun, as each somehow managed to miss the signals they were broadcasting all too clearly with their eyes and smiles.
#15 touch -Yunho would touch him and Changmin with brotherly affection, would touch Yoochun to comfort him during one of his sad days, but would touch only Jaejoong as if his very existence depended on the physical contact.
#16 weakness - As the leader it was his responsibility to critique on the others’ performances, but when he saw Jaejoong’s eyes shimmering a little too brightly, jaw set a little too tense, no words came out when he opened his mouth.
#17 tears - Jaejoong bit his lip, ignoring the sting in his eyes blurring his vision; he hated himself for delivering a sub-par performance, but most importantly hated himself for being responsible for the frown on his leader’s face.
#18 speed - Run, run, run as fast as you can - they were trying to outrun the forbidden emotions that would burst into life from a simple smile or touch, despite their futile attempts to remind themselves, this is all fake, false, fanservice only.
#19 wind - But just like a runner cannot outrun the wind, there was no escape from those forbidden emotions plaguing their hearts.
#20 freedom - They were in a foreign land thousands of miles away from the eyes of the media, fans, and their management, and allowed a hand on the other’s shoulder to linger a little longer than necessary.
#21 life - Jaejoong almost convinces himself that he’ll be happy for their future lives - being the best man at his wedding, being the godfather to his twenty-five children, and making fun of his white hair and soft belly at their band reunions - until the pain in his heart tells him he is back to square one.
#22 jealousy - As Junsu and Changmin oohed and ahhed over Yoochun and Jaejoong’s matching ‘soulmate’ tattoos, Yunho refused to acknowledge the unpleasant feeling gnawing at his heart.
#23 hands - In the privacy of his own bedroom, Yunho examined his hands as if seeing them for the first time, the lead singer’s, “I like beautiful hands” comment replaying itself like a mantra in his head.
#24 taste - Their leader’s, “I like someone who can cook” comment replayed itself in his head, and Jaejoong unconsciously taste-tested his signature kimchee jigae for the fourth (or was it the fifth?) time until the others accused him of starting dinner without them.
#25 devotion - He would sometimes think that Yunho was born knowing how to dance, until he remembers those nights when the younger man returned home from dance practice, body too sore to even make it to back his bedroom, or when he tried hard not to wince when movement aggravated his overworked muscles, and Jaejoong feels something inside him fall just a little deeper.
#26 forever - Yunho silently listens, pressing his ear against the door of the work room as Jaejoong practices their new song, vocals breathing life and emotions to the melody, and hopes to have the privilege to still hear this tomorrow, next month, next year, maybe even...forever.
#27 blood - He hears the sound of his pumping blood ricocheting in his ears as the mysterious substance seals his throat and breath, and as his vision fades to black, he thinks, ‘I’m sorry I never told you...”
#28 sickness - Jaejoong stood by the other man’s bedside, the cacophonous beepbeep of monitors piercing through the suffocating hospital air, and as his tears fell not from his eyes but from his heart, he knew that Yunho was not the only one who was sick.
#29 melody - “I-I’m okay,” said Yunho, voice weak and hoarse, yet Jaejoong thought that sounded more beautiful than any of the notes he himself could ever sing.
#30 star - Jaejoong has always mocked the existence of wishing stars, answered prayers, and miracles, but when he sees the color of health returning to Yunho’s handsome face and cheekiness returning to his grins, he starts believing.
#31 home - Yunho doesn’t miss the sterile walls of the hospital when he finally is able to return to his dongsengs who tease him of his misfortune yet relief is clearly etched on their faces and to the man who steals his breath away more than an anti-fan’s malicious acts ever could.
#32 confusion - He was confused - confused on how someone can so easily monopolize his emotions, confused on how to maneuver his way through a future so uncertain, but most of all, confused on how the answer can be so clear and simple.
#33 fear - He is afraid - afraid of the truth behind his feelings, afraid of the consequences, but most of all, afraid of this thing that cannot be yet-can-only-be called hope.
#34 thunder/lighting - Until determination hits them faster than a bolt of lightning and louder than the boom of thunder, and there is no more confusion, no more fear, and no more running away.
#35 bonds - “I loved you all along,” he says, “I know,” he replies, arms embracing each other, woven together by the red strings of fate herself.
#36 market - “That’s not a cucumber, that’s a zucchini!” says Jaejoong laughing, “Appa, you need to do better than to be the man behind umma and his cooking skills!” butts in Junsu, and Yunho smiles sheepishly, looking for the next item on their grocery list to redeem himself.
#37 technology - During filming breaks, Yunho looks at his text messages sent to him in the past hour - “Changmin insulted my cooking - he will not be eating dinner tonight! >__<”, “Yoochun is crying again =__=;;”, “Done with filming yet?”, “*sighs* I guess this is where I’m supposed to say I miss you” - and smiles to himself before putting his phone away.
#38 gift - “We cannot wear this in public, people will become suspicious!” exclaimed an exasperated Yunho, but their stylists never noticed that the leader and lead singer would always wear a certain ring amidst their vast collection of jewelry. [1]
#39 smile - From shielding tell-tale smiles and touches with a well-positioned pose in front of the camera to deflating ambiguous comments made during interviews, Junsu, Yoochun and Changmin wonder, since when did they become experts in the art of Hide-YunJae-ism?
#40 innocence - Despite running away from home, living in poverty, and being entangled in a custody battle, Jaejoong still retained an air of innocence and childlike wonder in him and Yunho had sworn long ago to protect that innocence from the harsh reality of their line of work and the cruelty of human nature.
#41 completion - As their leader, Yunho shoulders too much responsibilities, worries too much, self-critiques himself too much, so just like he protects the four of them from the rest of the world, Jaejoong will protect Yunho from himself.
#42 clouds - Despite the icy cool mask he wears for magazine covers and photoshoots, Yunho thought that Jaejoong was a man of always changing expressions - sometimes thoughtful, sometimes goofy, sometimes serious, but always irresistible.
#43 sky - The sky is the limit, but with each note, each tune, each melody, they have surpassed the limits and were soaring towards the heavens, their names carved on the stars.
#44 heaven - Stepping on the stage of the Tokyo Dome, their five voices uniting with fifty thousand, they were the Rising Gods of the East, and this was their throne, their heaven.
#45 hell - “I-I-I only wanted acknowledgement for our years of hard work, but oh god, what have I done to us?” says Jaejoong, his voice trembling, and Yunho could do nothing more than to hold the older man in his arms, muffling his sobs against his chest while blinking away the tears in his own eyes.
#46 sun - Amidst the chaos of fangirl screams, flashing cameras, and reporters swarming after him like bees to honey, Yunho’s arm around his waist was his sole source of warmth and strength, like the sun filtering though the stormy clouds.
#47 moon - With the moon being the only witness to their intimate moment, Jaejoong closes his eyes, allows Yunho to erase his worries with his hands, lips, tongue, and teeth, and thinks that everything will be okay.
#48 waves - Like waves resonating with matching vibrating frequencies, the five of them together was a sum greater than its parts that could collapse bridges, break records, be unstoppable, and were unstoppable. [2]
#49 hair - “I must be allergic to your spiky hair, pabo” says the lead singer as he sneezes when Yunho’s hair tickles his nose, but deep down Jaejoong knows he wouldn’t mind if he has the rest of his life to develop his immunity.
#50 supernova - It wasn’t love at first sight but the fusion of years of admiration, trust, respect, and simmering desire until the truth explodes on him and leaves him breathless: whether as a bandmate, best friend, comrade, lover, or hellalloftheabove, he can no longer imagine a life without Kim Jaejoong by his side.
Notes:
[1] This relates to the rumors that Yunho and Jaejoong wear matching Cartier rings. I read somewhere that these rings were given to them by fans, but also read that Jaejoong bought the rings. Guess which theory I chose to believe. XD
[2] This is called resonance, where waves with matching frequencies will increase in amplitude. A result of this is bridges collapsing. I kid you not.
