The world around him was especially silent today as Uchiha Sasuke stood alone facing the endless ocean. The seabirds that sweep across the sea with their cacophonous squawks were nowhere to be seen. The gusty winds strong enough to chill bone were now replaced by a soft breeze as it gently caressed the ebony locks of Sasuke’s hair. Even the ocean seemed especially peaceful today, its surface perfectly smooth and undisturbed by ripples as it stretched across the horizon.

Sasuke arched his graceful neck towards the sky. It was that hour before dawn, those wee moments lingering between night and day. His lips curved into a wry smile as he watched the night sky struggling futilely to maintain its darkness against the invading light. Although it was still dark, he knew it would only be a matter of time before the darkness loses its battle and the sky becomes blinded by the brightness of the sun’s rays. After all the brightness was just too possessive; even if the darkness wanted to be left alone, brightness would slowly creep into every corner of the horizon until it was too late.

For some reason, the brightness of the sun’s rays reminded him of the brightness of someone’s smile. Naruto’s smile. Both were so possessive, so blinding, and yet so irresistible.

The same person’s smile would be warming up his cold soul now, as the same person’s body would press close to his own, warming up his cold body.

Except that person is no longer able to do so. Sasuke still remembers all too clearly that fateful day. It was also the same day that he had finally killed Itachi. A thousand pound weight was lifted off his shoulders as he plunged his Kusanagi into his brother’s heart, hot Uchiha blood splashing onto his face. He was making his way back to Konoha, back to him when Sasuke had found him covered in blood.

It was an ANBU mission turned bad. As usual, completing the mission was first priority, even if it left the fox boy completely drained of Chakra and bleeding on the ground. And so the day Sasuke celebrated Itachi’s death was also the same day he mourned for Naruto’s.

But Sasuke is no longer sad. He had no reason to be. Because today marked the one year anniversary of Naruto leaving him, and he had decided that if Naruto was not coming back, Sasuke would go to him. He let out a low chuckle - his blond dobe was probably annoyed that it was always him searching for Sasuke and now wanted him to return the favor. Sasuke didn’t mind.

And that was why he was standing here on the edge of the ocean, the cool water gently lapping his ankles. With each step, he walked closer to the ocean, closer to the place where Naruto was impatiently waiting for him.

When the ocean water reached his waist, Sasuke looked back at the world he was leaving behind. And that’s when he noticed his footprints in the golden sand, and realized that it was the same shade as Naruto’s skin. As Sasuke bent down to run his fingertips over the sand, he could almost feel Naruto’s skin against his own as he left imprints on that golden skin with his lips, tongue, teeth, and nails.

Turning back, Sasuke continued to walk towards the ocean. The water level had now reached his shoulders and from such a close view, Sasuke could see the million shades of blue that made up the ocean’s color. A tilt of his head here, and the blue would deepen into a dark indigo. Another tilt there, and the blue would become aquamarine. Sasuke stared at the ocean, and imagined himself drowning in someone’s eyes. Eyes that were also made of a million shades of blue. Eyes that were normally bright blue would darken with anger when Sasuke challenged their owner’s dream to become Hokage, or would become clouded with passion when Sasuke teased their owner’s body to unbearable heights.

Still walking. By this time, the ocean water had engulfed Sasuke’s nose and mouth, its salty taste reminding him of Naruto’s tears as he licked them away, tears Naruto had cried each time Sasuke turned his back and walked away. He opened his mouth wide, greedily welcoming that salty taste as the ocean water invaded his lungs.

Just before his vision faded to black, Sasuke felt the warmth of the sun’s rays. The horizon was now becoming lighter, blinded by the brightness.

Naruto was probably smiling now.

Um yeah. Sorry if that broke your brain a little. =__=;; My fics hereafter will be better I hope.
