Warning! Spoilers on DH!
Hours it Took You to Finish DH: few days
BEFORE THE BOOK
Former Favorite HP Book: Half Blood Prince. I love all the back story on Tom Riddle
Canon (or Not Disproved) Ships You Supported: I don't ship characters. I liked Harry and Cho better than Harry and Ginny. I always thought Hermione and Ron would get together. No surprise.
Number of DH Theories You Had: Most of my own theories had to do with Neville and none of them were visited. I had thought that Neville's poor memory was due to a memory charm placed on him by the Death Eaters because he had seen something to do with his parents torture. I had thought that there was something more significant about Lily and her green eyes everyone kept mentioning...maybe a Sytherin connection. I thought that Aunt Petunia might have been magic and had been suppressing it all these years in fear. I thought that the bloody baron had something to do with the last horcrux.
Describe Your Best/Favorite Theory: Dumbledore and the Stopper in Death theory. It isn't mine but it was excellent and correct.
What Time Did You Acquire DH? 1am July 21
WHILE YOU READ
What you did/thought about…
The Seven Potters: It was an easy way for one of the main characters to get killed very quickly. It was an exciting way to begin the book. I still don't believe that no one got killed! Shouldn't they have all died! Worst aim ever.
Regulus: I really loved Kretcher's story about Regulus. I would have liked to know why he decided to do it though...why he decided to steal the horcrux. Was it because Lord V was mean to house elfs? Mmmm i dont think so. Why didn't he leave with Kretcher? He might have been afraid that Lord V would read his mind and then his whole family would be in danger.
Ron Leaving: Stupid Ron. He signs up to help and then when there wasn't enough food he was like peace out? really ron? wow. He didn't seem to be much of a friend. It was frustrating to read when Harry and Hermione were just sitting around trying to figure out what to do so i understand why he got pissed off. If he hadn't left they wouldn't have known about the name being cursed though. They might have been found soon.
Godric's Hollow: It was cool that people had left messages on harry's house for him to read. The graveyard visit was cool too. I thought the statue was a little much. And why...i mean if there's a statue of you...wouldn't someone eventually take you there to see it? The part with Bathilda was totally creepy! Her house is all covered with dust and then the smell of rotting flesh that happened to be her!? Totally gross!!! I never guessed she was the snake!
The Deathly Hallows: I thought they were a little bit of a let down. I would rather be searching for horcruxes...which they did but I just didn't get as involved with this story line. I didn't care as much about them. I don't know what it would mean to be a master of death and all i saw the elder wand do is mend harry's wand. Why is harry's invisibility coat the most special specialist?!
Breaking into Gringotts: I loved the protective charm that burned and multiplied. It made finding the cup must more difficult! Escaping on the dragon was cool too.
Aberforth and Ariana: Would have liked to know about Aberforth a little more in previous books. i thought it was cool to find out that it had been HIM checking on harry in the mirror. I know dumbledore mentioned him once in book five saying something about goats and Aberforth not knowing how to read so he wasn't ashamed about being in the paper. It was good to know backstory on Dumbledore but to be honest i never really wanted back story on him. It now makes sense why Dumbledore never got his nose mended by magic. I guess he always wanted to remember his mistakes.
I felt bad about Ariana. If she's a child who has special needs why didn't they get some help for her. To me, it seemed like her mother was irresponsible to try to care for her without any outside help. Eventually, Ariana ended up killing her mother and herself and i think no matter what she would have killed someone. I like to think the magical world more advanced than ours but maybe they didn't understand special needs children either. There was a time when special needs children were just shipped off to institutions. There's really nothing that could be done to prevent the tragedy.
Snape Being Good: I am easily fooled. I was 50/50 and then when i started reading the seventh book i was like, no, he is totally evil! It wasn't until i saw the memories that i knew he was good.
Harry Being a Horcrux: I really really hated this theory but it ended up being true. i still actually hate it.
King's Cross: I was fooled again! I thought that harry was dead!! It was a good way to get dumbledore in it again so that he can explain things to Harry...and me!
The Epilogue: Totally horrible. Tooo cute tooo happy and totally bad. Cringe. OoooOO see Draco's son??!! you better beat him in all his classes!! shut up shut up. No epilogue would have been better.
AFTER YOU FINISHED
New Favorite HP Book: Half Blood Price. such a good book. Love Snape, Draco and tom riddle in it.
Canon Ships You Now Support: eh
Number of Your Theories That Came True (or Sort of Did): Stopper in Death. The bloody baron was almost significant but not really haha
Overall Impression of DH: Good. Felt mushy in the middle when the trio didn't know what to do. It's not even close to being my favorite book though.
Favorite Part: I really liked Kreature telling his story about the lake.
Least Favorite Part: I though the students hiding out in the Room of Requirement was a little bit corny.
Saddest Part: when Dumbledore turned to Snape and said, "Sometimes i think we sort too early." So sad. What could snape have turned out like instead...If he hadn't been friends with all the death eaters?
Coolest Part: Snape's memories. I liked harry reading his mother's letter but never finding the last page and then we find out that Snape had it because it said "love, Lily" on it. I was totally surprised when I found out that snape's patronus was a doe and it led harry to the sword.
Best Completely Unexpected Part: Kreacher leading the house elfs into battle with kitchen knifes! Also, I did not know how much a picture could speak! Dumbledore had full on conversations with Snape! I thought that the pictures just left an imprint of their personality behind.
Best New Character: Bathilda...dead snake lady! hahah, there wasn't very many new characters in this book that received sufficient development.
Saddest Character Death: I felt sad that Dobby died. He's not my favorite character and i kind of find him annoying but he did save them all. And his death was a accident, it wasn't during a battle or anything. They were almost safe and poor Dobby just got a sword through the chest.
I was more shocked when Hedwig died! I was mad too! I seemed that Hedwig had to die because she clearly couldn't hide in the forest with them. JKR just killed Hedwig so she didn't have to write about her anymore.
Best Magic/Magical Item: I really liked how the locket Horcrux stuck to Harry's chest and Hermione had to pry it off and his skin came off. So creepy!
