For some reason, frozen yogurt has become trendy in the last...month or something. I've been trying a few places to see which is the best. And because...well i just really like dessert and any excuse will do...like research. The new flavor everyone seems to be talking about is plain. I really do like the taste of the plain frozen yogurt. It tastes just like the plain yogurt from the grocery store but frozen and creamy-ish (well at some places). First, I tried beachberry down by the beach...it's a knock off of pinkberry. They only have one flavor there...plain. They have a bunch of different fresh fruit which i thought was cool because sometimes I don't feel like fruit pieces in syrup that's marinated for ten years. we got a large for almost four dollars and it had bananas, blackberries and strawberries. I thought it was really good. It was enough for four people to share. It's kind of a weird taste since it's not sweet but i think that means you can just eat more! haha. It kind of reminds me of breakfast with the fresh fruit on top.
The next place i went to was Yogurtland down in irvine. When we got there the line was out the door! Beth wanted to go somewhere else but i wanted to stick it out. I had read about it on the internet and those people seemed impressed with it. There, they sell yogurt by weight. They had about twenty different flavors. All the usual ones like chocolate and dark chocolate, cheesecake etc. But they also had the plain kind and these different fruit ones called 'tart blueberry', 'tart stawberry' and green tea. By the time we got to the front, they were all out of plain! i was so sad that's the reason i went all the way there! So, i got some green tea and stawberry tart and blueberry tart. I added some fresh peaches and blueberries. It came out to around three dollars. If you filled the huge container to the top it was five dollars. I really liked the tart flavor taste with the fresh fruit. It was a good deal but we waited at least 15 minutes in line!
Finally, i went to pinkberry. The closest one is in Long Beach. I didn't want to buy a whole cup of yogurt since I was already stuffed from dinner so I just got a sample. I was not impressed at all. It was ice-y and not creamy like the others. Boo! I did only have a sample and i know alot of people really like it so maybe it needed more of a chance. They said they are building one at bella terra so i guess i'll have another chance in a year or so.
The plain yogurt is supposed to be better for you than the other kind. but i think that's only because it's missing all the sugar. At any rate, it's only 30 calories per oz and frozen yogurt has these health benefits because of the active cultures. And hey, Oprah likes it hahah :-P
