Ok, it has been a while! I apologise. I'm getting a bit lapse in my updates, but its largely because i have numerous other distractions - when i'm back at uni i'll be more regular.
First, the job. I got it!! I have more or less completed the first 2 of my 8 week placement, and I love it. I was left in limbo at first, didn't get the phone call tilla week after i expected, and they told me i was one of 3 applicants (out of about 40) to get shortlisted for an interview! I was amazed, scared and ecstatic all at once, as it would be my first formal interview (lets face it, interviews for bar work are anything but). I had a meeting with the careers centre to prepare for it though, and they were great, told me which parts of my cv to use in the interview, and i did feel confident...but there was still that nag there, that the other 2 candidates would be better, that nothing was definite yet...
the interview was..surreal. As well as the usual bumf, Sushil hammered me with Oxbridge style questions designed to test my thinking, but it just seemed like he was arguing every answer i gave, contradicting me, challenging me....but i seemed to get through it ok.
I left feeling good, but still terrified, i was shaking....then that afternoon i got a phone call. It was the careers centre, and they had asked me to call after my interview, so i just assumed they thought i'd forgotten. Then she told me i hads the job! i screamed down the phone, i could barely believe it, i've never been so happy, so pleased with myself. Everything came together...my financial worries were over, i had an 8 wk placement that would keep me nicely occupied and would look amazing on my cv.....
so yeah, i'm there now, and I love it. Due to confidentiality issues i cant give details, but i'm not just the coffee/admin girl. My opinions matter, i have real responsibilities, and there's even been hinting of part time work after the placement - i would so love to swap the hotel for the PR company.
David, remarkably, has rota-d me weekend hours, so i get my weeknights free, which is great. working 2 eight hr shifts over the weekend is tiring, as i've worked all week too, but it has to be done, and if i can snag hours at blade afterward then i can ditch it for good.
in other news....
joyce's wedding was lovely, i actually bought a dress (shock), white with blue and brown flowers and matching blue shoes. it was a good day, and night, i drank rose all day but was only a pleasant level of drunk and kept my heels on the entire time! i want a medal.
After that was the week in the house, which just made me all the more excited to move in properly in september, its a great house and it was fab to have scott with us again. roll on september, i must admit i miss the lifestyle. or maybe the people. i just wanna start 2nd yr!!
caught up with jody last week, it really confirmed to me that our friendship can last without us seeing each other as much, i mean, we've known each other almost our entire lives, we have a lot of history.
seeing meddy on sunday too, exciting...seeing sara a lot as well recently, which is nice. must go see todd soon. we're currently emailing loads, but i want a proper girlie night with her.
anyway, will update soon.
swimming begins again tonight = 9-10pm late lengths, only time i can go!
