In a few points of interest for music lovers, there seems to be some controversy over the fact that Megadeth have re-recorded A Tout Le Monde for their forthcoming United Abominations album. It is now a duet with Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil, and will be the album's first single.
The controversy centers around the fact that the guy that brought a gun into Dawson College last year had stated that it was one of his favorite songs and inspired him to attack. Somebody has decided to take offense, seeing this as a way for the band to cash in on the "publicity". There are several problems here:
1. Dave Mustaine had planned to do this long before the shooting (as a duet with Lisa Marie Presley, in fact!)
2. Mustaine owns the song. Scratch that; the fans own the song. The killer does not own the song. If the fans want to hear it, they have that right, regardless of what has happened recently. Are we going to start banning music to save peoples' feelings again?
3. The person taking offense has to understand that the song CANNOT be held responsible for the shooter's actions. Clearly he was unstable and will interpret anything the way he wants to fit his mindset. If a song is capable of making you do something, YOU HAVE NO BRAIN.
On top of all this, most people think it's a song about suicide. If you read the lyrics (and by god, why would anybody do that? I know what the song is about, and it's evil!), it is a song about healing. It isn't a suicide note, it's a letter to someone at death's door.
*sigh* This wouldn't be happening if the guy had been inspired to kill by someone like Mandy Moore.

Also, Canada's Walk of Fame inductees this year include Nickelback.

Nickelback.

Walk of Fame.

I'll let that sink in a moment.

...

Okay, so what I need is for anybody that is thinking of attending the ceremony to boo loudly for the entire time that they're getting their star. Not just when they come out; from the moment Eugene Levy starts talking about them to the moment they leave. And anyone that cheers them should be arrested for crimes against humanity. Or sent to sign language class, since they are clearly hearing-impaired. I thought the Walk of Fame was a nice idea; it was a good way to showcase how many talented, successful people have come out of Canada. And then they crap all over it with this.

Between the two stories I'm very sad for the state of music, and the world actually. Megadeth are demonized no matter what they do, and Nickelback sell millions of albums. Somewhere there is an alternate universe where people make sense and have decent taste in music. I'll keep searching...
