... this will either be a short update (because I kinda have to pee, sure you wanted to know!) or an extremely long one. So, basically if you're not interested in my life, please stop reading now! :)
Where to start.
Ok, how about from today. I woke up around 10:30 and was lazy until noon. Kristin and I planned to hang out but she got screwed into working until 3. Poor Kristin! So in the meantime I *attempted* to get things done. I made probably 4 phone calls: Church to set up a time to meet with the priest to get the readings and program taken care of, the County Courthouse to ask about the times they were open and how much a marriage license was, the Brewers ticket office for Matt's wedding gift (haha, I know he doesn't go online much and probably doesn't think I updated my LJ, so it's most likely safe to talk about it here), Children's to see how late they were open, and I think someone else. Unfortunately, I only really got ahold of 3. And I still have to call my cousin about my hair. And now I'll be waiting for everyone to call me back. Grr. Aw well, that's why I have off of work! :)
I ran to the post office to get stamps and to mail out an invitation (the stamps are weird so the p.o. is supposed to do something special with them before sending them out). Then I paid 4 different bills; then made a check out to the Brewers Charity place so I could get us on the Scoreboard on June 4th. :D Should be awesome--middle of the 3rd inning that day they'll get the camera on us and we'll be on the scoreboard. It'll say something like "Just Married, Matt & Monica." Matt'll love it. Plus, the seats aren't bad.
Kristin and I ran to Children's so I could pick up my benefits package thingy. I don't even want to look at that right now; eventually I will because I do want health insurance. I gave Kristin a mini-tour and realized, after some people asked where something was in Froedtert, I really REALLY don't know my way around, lol. Especially Froedtert--I don't work there! People stop me in the halls on the way to work... see the Children's Hospital ID? Yeah, means I work THERE. ;P Oyyyy. So I couldn't help it--I *had* to wander up to the 4th floor just to hold me over. It was relatively quiet (a rarity). See, I don't work there for almost a month because I took off the week before and after the wedding, and they didn't schedule any of the nurse interns at all, so I'll start as a Graduate Nurse (GN) the Monday after I come home from Colorado (our honeymoon spot). Speaking of which, I got some money for graduation on Sunday so Matt and I booked our flight to Colorado and I talked with my aunt to see if their house was available that week for us to stay in. She gave us the green light and gave me some websites so I could check out stuff to do in the area. Way pumped. Now all we have to do is save up some more money and get a rental car! :)
Kristin and I went back to my parents' place and I finished my thank-you notes from the shower. Finally, lol. Next we went with Jon Saidler on a walk through the Village. We ate at Ferch's, somewhere I haven't been in AGES. It was fun, even though we didn't get ice cream (what Ferch's is kinda "famous" for). We proceeded to walk some more--Kristin and I needed that--and wound up at the old St. Al's playground. Swung on the swings, played on the equipment, etc. Totally a blast. Then we went back to Kristin's and spent 500 hours trying to decide what movie we wanted to watch. We narrowed it down and then went to my place. We watched "How To Deal" which I've seen before and liked it. Mandy Moore is pretty cool. Especially in "A Walk To Remember," my all-time favorite movie that I could watch over and over again any time. Whoops, getting off track. So yeah, then Penny was limping for some reason! She wasn't doing it earlier, so I have no clue what she did to it. She was so gimpy! Still is a little, but she managed to get up to the loft. Maybe she's faking so she gets attention, since the kittens are here. But I do give her plenty just for that reason!
Oh yeah, I got kittens. I think I mentioned that, but their names are Trinity (the girl) and Lyle (the boy... duh... and for obvious reasons). I love 'em. I've got pics up on Facebook but I don't remember how to put in the link so non-Facebookers can view it... sorry. Anywho, I made a whole album of just them. And my 'rents got me a digital camera (hooray!) for graduation / my birthday / the wedding so I'll be taking muchos des pictures (whoops, Spanish and French there) of los kitties. I'll shut up now.
Or not.
Graduation! I almost forgot: I graduated at Parkside on Sunday. We still have our pinning ceremony--when we officially become nurses--on Saturday, May 20th. That'll be cool and I'll probably be emotional because honestly, these are the people I've been with for the last 2 years. Plus, I'm excited and terrified at the same time. I've been in school for 16 straight years and now I don't have that to hide behind. Not that it was ever an excuse, but it kinda was. Don't get me wrong, I'm over-joyed about working at Children's and Forest View but wow... surreal. I don't know what to think, but I'm pretty sure it's good.
On a lighter note and on why I love my job / co-workers: We all laugh at / with each other. I'm finally getting to know people on the floor more than just as preceptors. The majority of nurses on our floor are only a year to 5 years out of college. And they're so smart! I hope I can be half of that in 5 years. dfffffffff4333333333333333333y <-- whoops, that was Penny stepping on the keyboard... with her "bad" paw. Hehehe, I'm so on to you, girl. Hmm. Talking to my cat as if she were human. Whatev. Anywho, there was another priceless story of me being a freak and a quote by one of the nurses I was working with on Friday:
*Clears throat*
It was Nurses Week last week. They had those really yummy soft cookies with frosting for us at the end of our shift. Now usually we wrap things up around 7 and wait for the other nurses to read what we wrote and then report off to them by 7:30. Technically we're still resposible until 7:30 for our patients so I keep an ear out. I grabbed a cookie and thought to myself, "Hmm, I probably shouldn't have this. The minute I take a bite, someone's going to alarm." But it didn't happen, at least not with this cookie. Right at 7:30 we were reporting off about our last patient. I dared to take another cookie. Hehehe. I knew this would happen: alarms started beeping so naturally I went out to check. It was past 7:30 and it wasn't one of my patients, but I felt like a jog anyway. So with a half-eaten cookie in my mouth, I sprinted to the room to make sure the kid was ok. Luckily she was--she wiggled her pulse ox off her toe (a common occurance, lol), and for those of you reading this who haven't figured it out yet, the monitor alarmed (another common occurance). I got back in the break room to look for my nurse so I could walk out with her when one of the other ones goes: "There's just something about seeing you run past the break room with a cookie in your mouth at the end of shift answering an alarm. I don't know whether to laugh or be impressed."
Ahh, I love it.
Hmm, what else... I've got a busy few weeks coming up so I'll need all the prayers I can get. Actually, that's a little selfish, so maybe just think about me if you can. No biggie.
I'm currently in an excellent mood. I got straight A's this semester, which I think is kind of a nice way to wrap things up, go out with a little bit of a small bang. Like anyone cares about grades anymore. I suppose that's not why I'm in a good mood, though... the only thing that's bothering me is heartburn--I had an IC Mocha from Panera and 2 Mountain Dews today; all that damn caffeine. Quite the buttload. And I realized awhile ago that caffeine was the culprit of my acid reflux. I guess it's back to caffeine-free. :(
Six Flags is open and Jaymes is home from Peoria. This translates to him, Mandy, Potter, me, and possibly Matt going to SFGAm sometime in the near future. Hooray! :D
FIRE 8!!! (Kristin, keep the tally going. Or wait! It's a new day! NEW TALLY, WOO-HOOOOOO!)
Sorry 'bout that. Can't control it, hehe.
Ahem. Anyway...
Wow, that might be all I should update about for now. Or at least in this update. I'll probably write more later!
Thanks for reading my LiveJournal. We hope you enjoy your day at Six Flags.
