Anyone who spends time around me will realize that I adore speculative fiction. My favourite shows, movies, books... they all live in the "science fiction/fantasy" spectrum. This has been true for almost as long as I can remember - the first non-picture book to be my favourite read was "Convergent Series" by Larry Niven. Sure, at the time, I didn't catch anywhere near half the nuances of the stories, but I loved them anyway. He's still one of my favourite authors, up there with Harlan Ellison, Guy Gavriel Kay and Lois Bujold.
I adore all of the Big Three in visual media: Star Trek, Star Wars and Doctor Who.
I was seriously worried about transition to the new Doctor this year - the switch from Eccleston to Tennant was such a joyful surprise, I was sure it couldn't happen twice in a row. I was, I am happy to say, quite wrong. The new dude had me won over within 10 minutes of the show. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to miss Tennant, just as I still miss Eccleston (rather hoping for convergence of all three in one episode, actually) ... but for all the missing, there isn't going to be any pining. He was funny and brilliant and fantastic... he was the Doctor.
I really don't want to have to wait for the next episode.
