I'm going to start this one a little early. Thursday night I went to see a band at the Northstar bar. My mom's boss is in a local band and was part of some kind of talent competition. So of course I went and checked them out. I've mentioned them before in a previous entry. They still rock and should still check them out.
Friday was a true gem. I feel kind of bad because I bailed on two different people. However I bailed in the interest of going to the dungeon since I didn't make it there at all the previous weekend. So for as bad as I might feel about bailing, I have to say that I had one of the most amazing Friday nights of my life. I got down to the Dungeon just before nine. When I got there Robert and Sin were sitting on the cement landing where the entrance is (it's not really a porch only because no one actually lives there). Robert was surprised to see me because I'm rarely there on Fridays. So I ended up sitting down there with them and talking with them. I wound up talking to Robert for a good two hours. We talked about a little of everything, sports, BDSM, life in general, the local area. It was very cool to have such a long in depth conversation with him. Then again it's always good to have a conversation with someone that you respect that much. Also the selfish prick in me thinks it's awesome because now more than ever if someone where to ask him about me, he would be inclined to say that while I'm still kind of a n00b, I have a good head on my shoulders.
Anyway so after sitting out in the rain talking for a few hours, I finally went in to the dungeon. There was hardly anyone there. Other than the staff there was me and three other people. An older woman (sassy) and an older couple who were friends of hers. So main I spent the rest of the time talking to Bart, Dove, and wolf. I really like getting to know them, as they are wonderful people. Being in the dungeon on Saturdays they are usually way too busy to really be able to talk. That also made this a nice change of pace. I got filled in on some of the drama, because let's face it the more public a place is and the more people frequent it, the more drama will occur. I'm sure there is an equation to explain it, rife with constants, variables, and the unique runes of mathematical notation which are utterly beyond my purview. Anyway so I got the scoop. Then later I watched as Dove and Bart wrapped wolf in black shrink wrap, slapped a gimp hood on him, and proceeded to torture his genitals in epic fashion. A moment of pure comic genius occurred after all of this. The older woman who was there, sat next to me while Bart and Dove worked their magic, as we talked. Well afterwards as I was getting ready to leave, she noticed the tee shirt I was wearing, which boldly proclaimed that “Dead Girls Never Say No...” and she was stunned by this that she couldn't even finish reading it aloud as she noticed it. The sheer irony of someone frequenting a dungeon but being flabbergasted by such a morbidly puerile joke nearly knocked me off of my feet. What was even more stunning to me however is that I received the offer to store my toy bag in the supply closet at the dungeon since I was coming back Saturday night. I now truly feel like a regular.
Saturday was again altogether wonderful. I woke up late (around 1pm ish). I lazied around until it was time to go to a birthday party that some friends were holding en masse. One of the birthdays being celebrated was mine so I couldn't very well skip it. It was nice to see that particular crew, as I see them very rarely any more. I got some fun stuff, the highlight of which is a tee shirt from USA Kilts that says “What's up yours?” Good stuff.
Then I was back off to the dungeon. I have to say that this Saturday was seriously busy. It seemed like everyone got back from their holiday and decided to come out. This is in no way a bad thing. I was very much the social butterfly that night. Tracey stopped in (on crutches because her leg is still not fully healed), along with a guy she is kind of seeing now. Hannah was there too, as well as all of the regulars, the various floaters that roam in and out, plus several new people. New people always make me happy as they are sign of the vitality of the place and the community everyone is trying to build there. The only down side is that I was supposed to meet Donna there and I figured I would play with her, but for various reasons she didn't make it, and I do believe that I missed a chance to play with at least one sub there that night. Such is the bread of an everyday life.
I watched Mike a little more in depth with his needle play, which I liked, because I am still terribly curious about it. And for some reason it seemed like rope bondage night on Saturday. There was a guy I had never seen there before who tied his girl up the frame of the chain web. This is notable because he had her harnessed up in such a way that even though she wasn't a tiny girl, she was hanging comfortably, with no pain, and he hauled her up himself with no pulleys at all. This guys work was just mind boggling and lead to more than a few dirty jokes. There was another guy that I have seen there a few times, who tied his girl up to the bar that is attached to the hand winch in the back. He tied her so securely that he was able to raise her up off of her feet and she almost looked like she was flying.
One of the other highlights of the night was that Dove really seemed to make it a point to talk to me. She pulled me aside and warned me about a guy who didn't really know what he was doing with a violet wand (which I could tell myself, but still it shows she at least cares) and we discussed the idea of all the prep work for shibari being itself the reward for the dominant. I'm really beginning to feel like I belong there, and I'm touched by the effort that the staff have made to make me feel like I belong. that may sound cheesy, but I always heard horror stories about how cliquish and fractious the Philly scene is, and I consider myself lucky to be part of a place that goes against that notion. At the end of the night I just split, everyone seemed tired, and I certainly was too, so I went home and got some sleep.
Sunday was a blast. I woke up around 11 and just laid in bed not wanting to get up eventually I did and hauled myself over to Robin and Sean so we could head off to D&D. Despite being down Robin and Tony we did add Randi, and Seans new character so life was good there. A little side quest never hurt anyone. We got mixed up in a quick adventure and fought off some bandits. My new character proved to be a death dealing machine, mowing through enemies (2d8 +6-18 damage will tend to do that). I'm kind of pissed at myself though, there is a great prestige class that I found in The Complete Warrior that would be great for this character if I had done the concept a little different. le sigh.
Yesterday was a mixed bag, mostly bad. One of the core members of my division at work is leaving, which means we have a serious knowledge gap that will be recoverable with only the most herculean of efforts. Then there was yet more podcast drama. I swear, instead of home-ecc there should be a mandatory interpersonal communication class taught in high school. I am firmly convinced that the world would be a better place if everyone on this planet understood that we all see things differently and just because you mean one thing with your words, does not guarantee that anyone else in the world will get that meaning. Language is a skill, a talent, it is not some kind of racial memory that we all pop out of the womb with. Anyway the plus side was that our guest was awesome. He was not only a trooper, but a genuinely nice guy who was very interesting to talk to.
Anyway that's all I got for this week. Hopefully the rest of the week will move along smoothly, and I can have another good weekend. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
