Please to ignore this rant.
My teacher gave us a "bonus" (or so she says) take home exam that should be submitted tomorrow. But seriously, I have all my books out trying to find the answers plus I have my notebook on for all the google-ing that needed to be done but I still can't get the 100% correct answer for all the damn 100 questions! Then I heard from my classmate that he got his friend doctor to answer it and it took the doctor 3 freakin' hours for the 80 questions. IF A DOCTOR CAN'T ANSWER IT ALL, HOW COULD A LOWLY STUDENT NURSE LIKE ME ANSWER IT??
Case in point:
In emergency triage, which patient should be attended first:
a) patient with a temperature of 98.9F
b) patient with minor leg burns
c) patient with extensive bruises and injuries to the chest
d) patient with intermittent abdominal pain
I go for C. Why? Because my inner Aizawa says so. Great deductions, Jen!
Pfft. Gotta go~
Okay! I know I won't be able to move pass this so lemme give a little explanation...
- Trauma to the chest could mean damage to the lungs and because maintaining airway patency is rule number 1 in emergency cases, any case in fact, it just made patient "C" a higher priority than the rest. Notice how the first thing that is assessed on site is the patient's breathing and the first intervention done is usually intubation?
- Also, injuries to the chest could mean damage to the heart and if that happens, delivery of blood and therefore oxygen to the rest of the body especially the brain would be insufficient and would thus cause more damage to the body. Remember that the brain can only be deprived of oxygen for a maximum of 10 minutes.
- Then the patient could also go v-frib and that would be fatal.
- Another thing is that there could be extensive bleeding inside which could lead to shock.
NERD. Ignore me, please. And if I'm wrong in this one (This still isn't a 100% correct answer, mind.), I will definitely die.
