==========

With the win, Houston manages to eliminate itself from the playoffs. How? They lost to the Jets in week 1, and in embarrassing fashion ... The top five of the draft is now set: St. Louis, followed by Detroit, then the Bucs, Chiefs, and Redskins ... My charts show San Diago and Minnesota making it all the way to the Super Bowl this year, or at least, at this time ... Does anyone believe Mangini keeps his job now that he's won four in a row? Survey says no ... Speaking of Black Monday, Coaches Who Gonna Be Gone: Mangini, Zorn (confirmed), Jauron (midseason), Tom Cable, John Fox ... The yearly surprise coach to be fired this year? My vote goes to Jack del Rio ... If you're the Bucs, Chiefs, and Browns, you have taken a step forward from Awful to Mediocre, but if you're the Rams, Raiders, Seahawks, Bills, Bears, and Jags, you feel like you're going backwards fast ... Teams that stood pat: Lions, Dolphins, Broncos, 49ers, Falcons ... This year's Underachievers: Redskins, Panthers, Giants, Titans, Steelers, Texans ... With the uncapped season coming up, I would expect to see the big market teams - Dallas, Washington, both New Yorks - trying to make splashes in free agency, though that's not likely to happen since a lot of the best players are already locked up, and with the CBA having been opted out of, the deadline for Restricted Free Agency just went from four to six years, so there'll be no runs on Owen Daniels or Demeco Ryans ... Going into this postseason, what was least expected at midseason was that this would be a wide-open chase: since Indy sat their players, you can already count on them getting bumped early, and since San Diago actually played their starters all the way through, you can count on them going deep; for New Orleans and Minnesota, their story's more one of a late-season fade than anything, but Minnesota bounced back strong this weekend ... Taking All Bets: Minnesota, Dallas, San Diago - everyone else is a wash at one point or another ...

Coming soon: draft previews.
