Translations and visitations
I'm thinking, I should probably post something about the student transfer one of these days. Just so I could revisit it years and years later, when I feel inclined to traipse down memory lane. Because, yeah, I'll be sure to want to remember all that then.
Instead, I think I'll revisit Tuesday, when I took some porn to the uni to hear senseis opinion. Those seriously were the times.
It was good that I'd checked some vocab. Right at the beginning, pulling chapter three out of my bag, I looked her hard in the eye and told her it has male homosexual themes. "Mm, that's fine," she replied, and proceeded to flip through its entirety, this including page after page of said "homosexual themes". It still baffles me to no end that Japanese people can just leaf through japanese text and actually home in on stuff by glance. Anyway, I tried to look at anything else but her giving it a once over, like walls (Look at those walls!), curtains (Whoa, why does it curl like that?!) and bookshelves (That's a lot of japanese text-books she's got there, almost like she's a japanese teacher or someth- ...wait a second.). Although, now that I think about it, I guess it really wasn't as awkward as make it out to be, and as she looked at it and wondered aloud how yaoi really seems to be big, I could actually tell her, in japanese no less, how I think Sakura gari's an interesting specimen in the sense that it's published in a magazine that's not specialized, even though it's quite graphic at times.
She confirmed her earlier assessment of the passage I'd asked her about, and explained the expression nanzo yori. As I'd thought, nanzo basically just stresses the point (it's classic japanese or dialect for nanka). As it doesn't really translate well without gimmicks, I'll just leave it as I translated it already.
Now, there was some discussion on the Naono Bohra comm about a manga of hers, by the name of Tamago no Hi. It's longish, and apparently not exactly yaoi. And fantasy, too. Because it's not yaoi, yaoi translation groups aren't interested in translating it.
I feel like I should translate it just to be nice to these about three people who'd like to read it, even though it's not yaoi, and thus not very interesting, fantasy and longish. Plus it's in her older style which doesn't appeal to me as much, either. And I'm no guru, so it wouldn't really be galloping to the rescue, but more like working my ass off for very little or no credit.
And it's not like there isn't the bachelors I should rather focus on... But it seriously bugs me, even more so because it seems like there are so few people who'd even be interested in it.
