What's pretty odd, though, is that the people at the Guest House have mistakenly put my nationality down as Japanese. I never thought that a blonde with a distinctly non-Japanese name could pass. I have been communicating with them only in japanese, but they seriously can't have drawn any conclusions from that. Not with my ability. Or then nothing makes sense anymore...
Moomintroll: I woke up at night and couldn't sleep
Little My: Ha ha
Moomintroll: What are you implying?
Little My: I know what you were doing, I was awake too.
Moomintroll: *gulp*
Little My: You were with Snufkin.
I read somewhere an odd statement concerning attitudes toward homosexuality. It was claimed, in what I thought was a rather smug tone, that globally the U.S. was the most accepting toward homosexuals. I think that's bullshit. It's Pride Week in Helsinki, and in my minds eye I see businessmen patting themselves in the back while gays happily march and Helsinki's known as the gay-friendliest city in Europe or some shit like that.
Out of the Nordic countries, Finland was the second to last one to strike homosexual behavior as a crime from the penal code. I know that doesn't make any difference, really, and perhaps rapid change later is better than slow change earlier. But no matter how gay-friendly Finland's supposed to be, I'm not going to take a smug tone when a member of the Finnish parliament made a comment a month or so back that basically boiled down to saying that if the line isn't drawn at gay marriage, people will soon have to be permitted to marry their pet pooches.
Snufkin, why am I so negative these days? And why do I keep blogging about things that bore the crap out of even myself?
