Today I got mail from the Guest House. My application had apparently raised no eyebrows, since they reported no problems with it, and that my reservation is good to be finalized. At least my digs for the first month are set.
We went to IKEA yesterday. Walking the aisles feels very much like being led to slaughter. There's nothing really different in IKEA compared to other stores, but I can't help feeling like they're about to jump me from behind a display of wicker baskets and shake me down for my money. Which is completely irrational, because everyone knows there isn't one member of staff in the whole IKEA. My sister, who has a formal education in furniture, and works at another chain of furniture stores, told me that customers regularly ask her why her store doesn't print "warmth levels" onto the blankets like IKEA does. She tells them that they don't have to, because she's there to provide service and assistance, and to determine which type of blanket the customer needs based on the information they provide her about their sleeping habits. I thought that was really cool.
I got a day-glo pink strap for my suitcase. Makes it easier to recognize when it comes down the line.
